bluesguitar65
I happen to be browsing at a firebird from sweet water and the serial was 160095712. Was there a typo? Have a look here, http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/HDSF10VSCH From the serial number, it is showing that is built in 2019, but the firebird was built in 2016. Searcy
Can we call this "the nine digit SN standard"? Unless I'm mistaken all the 9 digit serial numbers are like this now, correct?
bluesguitar65
So this scheme is no longer.. YDDDYRRR YY is the production year DDD is the day of the year RRR is the factory ranking/plant designation number.
Searcy
Now it's YYRRRRRRR.
Gibson CS
Now it's YYRRRRRRR. Gibson USA 2014 to present – These serial numbers cannot be dated to a specific day of the year. The new model year typically launches in the fall as the current model year winds down. It is not uncommon for a new model year model to be produced during the previous model year (example – a 2015 model may have been built in late 2014). The pattern is as follows: YYRRRRRRR YY is the model year RRRRRRR is the number in product for the model year (starts at 0000001)

Yes, YYRRRRRRR standard for Gibson USA (Nashville). . . To be clear: AFAIK Memphis (ES) and Bozeman (acoustics) are still using the 8 digit YDDDYRRR on most guitars. And here's a shocker: After over two years, Gibson has finally updated their serials info site with the YYRRRRRRR information - it wasn't there a week ago when I made this post - http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/130145-gibson-usa-serial-format-change-for-2014-still-being-used/ .
