Pedal Board Positioning

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I need some community assistance. I am very new to pedal boards and would love your input on placement. I have a Epi Casino with P90's (love it) running into an old Peavey Bandit 112 silverface transtube amp (not my ideal, but I also cant complain). I am starting to play classic rock (Stones, The Band, Little Feat), blues (Taj Mahal), alt country (Uncle Tupelo/ Wilco), southern rock (Drive-by Truckers), and Americana (Avett Bros) stylings with a new band. Far stretch from my sole acoustic bluegrass and singer/songwriter roots, but its a damn good time and I'm really enjoying stepping out and trying something new.

So I have invested in a pedal board. This is what I currently have arranged and also noted in order of chain placement. I am not looping anything. Its all straight to the amp. I am not looking for recommendations for new pedals. I am simply looking for recommendations for chain placement adjustments to fit the style I am playing with my new band.

Here it is:

Guitar > Tuner > MXR Custom Compressor > Bigfoot Magnavibe > Fulltone Octafuzz > Crybaby Wah > MXR Analog Chorus > Fulltone OCD > Xotic BB Preamp > Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor > MXR Phase 90 > MXR Carbon Copy > Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Reverb > Amp

Should I move anything around in the chain to achieve the optimal sound style I am looking for?

Thanks!

You've got enough pedals there to create a big mess.....

A couple of recommendations: move the wah and fuzz to the front of the chain (my preference is wah>fuzz, but the other way around works as well). Keep all modulation at the end, so move the chorus in front of the echo.
