oceantracks
I tried an SG Standard T yesterday and it was great. Then the salesman showed me the more expensive HP version and pointed out the smoother neck joint where it meets the body. I could care less really, but I got to wondering, my first serious guitar when I was a kid was a 1964 SG Standard (vibrola)......which of the 2016 neck joints would more closely resemble what a vintage one had? Thanks much
Rabs
Any Gibson that isn't a 2016 HP or an Alex Lifeson model has the traditional heal.. (which is what the T stands for)....

merciful-evans
Any improvement that Gibson can offer for improved upper access is good; -and certainly appreciated by me.
charlie brown
As I haven't yet had the chance to try a "T" series or "HP" side by side, I wonder about neck joint stability, with less wood, on the HP version. The neck joint, has always been a bit of a weak link, in the SG's. That was addressed in various ways, over the last 55 years, since they were introduced, in 1961. Mostly, by adding a meatier, or longer neck joint So, does the HP version have a "longer" neck tenon, sunk into the body, to (possibly?) compensate, for less wood at the heel, for more strength and sustain? I noticed, (right away...you know me) that the nicer (wider/deeper) beveling and horn tapering, is Missing, on the "Traditional" version, but IS there, on the HP version, with the slimmer heal joint, as well. Seems like (to me) that the "T" series, being touted as "Traditional" should have the more pronounced bevels, and the horn tapering, as well. But, I'll never under stand Gibson's logic, I guess?
