Sheraton vs Casino

Hello,

being a huge Beatles/Oasis, jangle pop and powerpop fan I'm looking for a hollow/semihollow guitar.

 

I can't decide between the new Sheraton II Pro and the Casino. Both are priced similarly. And I know their differences in pick-ups (P90 vs hummbuckers), center block on the sheraton, etc.. I have no way to try them since there is no Epi dealer in town.

 

I expect the Casino to be able to replicate the Beatles sound easily and the Sheraton might be closer to the Oasis tone since Noel used this type of guitar in the past and currently with the Gibson ES335.

 

I wonder if the coil tapping on the new Sheration would somehow be closer to a P90's sounds?

 

Which of them is more versatile to get the vintage 60's tone and the Britpop 90's more distorted sound?

I only play at home thru a small Vox Pathfinder.

I have the Sherry Pro II, I don't have a casino to compare to, but I do have experience with P90s IMO the coil split doesn't really sound like what I've come to know P90s to sound like. The Sherry sounds more like a 335 all around, where the coil splits give you a few extra tones to dial in.

 

If you're really going for that vintage/brit-pop tone, the Casino is probably the one for you.

 

 

In any case, I really like My sherry Pro II, I tend to play it quite often. After some work to level a few high frets, I was able to dial in a nice setup, it's a great player. For the money, hard to find much to complain about.

 

I will let the Casino Crew chime in as those guys will definitely have more things to say than I will about that particular axe.

The Beatles early "Pop" guitar sound was Rickenbacker, Gibson J-160E (P-90), Gretsch (Duo Jet, Country Gent, and Tennessean),

and Vox amps! The growl they got, back then, was from over driving the Vox amps. Later, they used everything from

Fender Strats, Ric's (6 & 12-string), Epi Casino, Gretsch "Nashville," Gibson '64 SG, and '57 refinished Les Paul,

George's "Lucy!" So, their tonality was All Over The Spectrum. After they stopped touring, they did a lot in the

studio, on board, and with special effects.

 

Oasis, I'm not as familiar with, but I have seen Noel using Sheraton's, and currently his ES-355. But, I suspect

they've used a multitude of guitar gear, as well.

 

Point is, with a little bit of experimentation, you should be able to get close, with either guitar you're interested

in. Less feedback, with the Sheraton, but a more "rounded" mid-range jangle/quack, with the Casino/P-90 combination.

Then, there is (always) the Amp! As, if not more, important than "which" guitar. IMHO, as always.

 

You really need to play them, both, to decide which one you like the most. The Sheri is a great guitar, and so is the

Casino! Which one you'll like the most, only YOU can decide. You might just end up with both, eventually?

 

Enjoy your search, and experiments, once you make your guitar choice. That's most of the fun, anyway.
