OldCowboy Posted July 25, 2016 Share Posted July 25, 2016 As a folkie, then and now, and as a sometimes rocker, then and now, my recollection of Dylan's electric debut is a little more convoluted than love it/hate it. First off, we were expecting to hear Dylan as we'd been accustomed to hearing him, and the 'surprise' was just that. Disorienting at first, kind of disappointing considering the circumstances, and generally overwhelming. Some people, both in the audience and involved with the festival, were immediately vocal in the negative. Most were stunned, puzzled, wondering if we'd slipped into another dimension, and not saying much at all. It surely caught people's attention, though, and I believe that was the plan on Dylan's part. I did see him live at the Boston Garden and was totally mesmerized with his abilities.This was at the time tha Dylan did his world tour. September 20, 1978 Boston United States Boston Garden It was at this time that Dylan was receiving a lot of flack as he had become a born again christian and the press was raking him over the coals, but Bob was laughing all the way to the bank and not worried about what the press was saying, the tour earned a total of $20Mill. And remember that was in 1978 dollars.His concert at the Garden was good, but I do admit the sound man must have been high, because it was hit miss with some of the songs. For the most part it was a memorable evening, one that I will always remember.
