How can you compare an hamburger with a musical instrument ... ?

My 2000 SG Limited is an incredible guitar , the best !

Sorry, she' not made in China ...

How can you tell a wanker from a musician? A musician is capable of appreciating a good instrument regardless of maker.

A wanker just goes on and on about some equipment that he imagines to be the Holy Grail, which it is assuredly not.

Then continues to annoy people with these juvenile rantings.

YOU, SG player are that WANKER. [thumbdn]

Holy mother of toilet seat, will you stop banging on about your guitar. We're all sorry it's not made in China. We're all sorry it's not an Epiphone. We're all sorry you joined in our polite conversation.

My Epiphone Casino is a cheap chinese guitar .

But this is a cool light guitar made for playing everywhere unplugged or plugged .

All the pictures in the world will not change the general consensus that you are indeed an immature and childish annoyance on this forum. I believe that it's impossible for you to be any different until you GROW UP YOU IDIOT! [thumbdn]

I popped over here from the Gibson Acoustic forum to see if I could pick up some advice about an epi electric I'm considering.

I owned a G400 but it didn't suit me.

It seems I have discovered the reincarnation of GuitarLight!

I'm considering a Les Paul Special II

I don't play electric much any more but I wanted to have a go at 5 string open tuning (Keef style) just for fun.

So I don't want to spend much in case it's a disaster!

I'm 67 next week so I'm hoping there's some new tricks in this old dog.

Epi Special II's are great for the money. I got one for £80 used last year. Only problem I had with mine is the cheap tuners they use on them need swapping out. I'd try a few though, just to make sure you get a good one.

Quite a few bloodied foreheads and dented walls, Sergio.

That said, I kind of miss him, in a Stockholm Syndrome way. I haven't had anyone tell me my Epi is a joke for months and months now.

I admit it took forever to get the sweet spot back after I lowered the action to playable, but it sounds so good now, I'm ready to argue again!

I've lost interest reading this whole thread but I just want to point this out to anyone who thinks Epiphones are merely "copies" of "the real deal" gibsons.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epiphone

Gibson's parent company acquired Epiphone because they were their main competition.

IE a lot of what we value in Gibson-style electric guitars we owe to Epiphone, either by Epiphone's original designs or by the process of competition that pushed these guitars to a higher standard than they would have without competition.

Credit where it's due.

I get that you're a gibson snob, but posting here about how epiphones are crap is just a plain troll move. You've probably antagonized everyone you know in real life enough that they won't spend time with you anymore so you have to try to antagonize us about something.

I play epiphone because I love epiphone. I love the rawer sound, the raggedy feel, the fact that I don't feel scared to take my guitar anywhere or mod the crap out of it. You can keep your gibsons dawg, but don't act like the rest of us don't know what we're talking about.

It was just getting good, or at least moderately entertaining, and then the guy stopped right about the time my popcorn finished popping. I'm guessing he got banned? He sure did post lots of nice guitars. Were any of those actually his? There was sure a lot of set up shots. I don't know that I'd go to that much trouble taking pictures of my personal guitars.

Anyway, I pretty much only play Gibsons and have for years and they've never let me down. I've played Epiphones in the past, maybe 15-20 years ago, and took the opportunity to play a few recently. The lower end ones were worse than the lower end Gibsons in sound and quality and playability. Or, at least the way they were set up at a store whose initials are GC. Once I got past the bolt on neck Epiphones into the higher end ones, they got better and better. Playing a couple of mid-range Epiphones and a couple Les Paul Fadeds, Studios and Tributes, seemed to be pretty similar, the Epiphone higher end being better than the lower to mid range Gibsons. The higher end Gibson Standards, HP, Traditionals, Classic Reissues definitely felt and sounded different to my old ears. Epiphone has definitely have come a long way in quality and workmanship in the recent models I've played, even lower end. What I've heard again and again is that they're not US made, cheaper electronics and woods, worse fret work. I didn't notice this difference on the more expensive Epiphones and I took about an hour and a half testing different lower end Gibsons and Epiphones for my son. A good playing and sounding guitar is what's important, not so much the name on the headstock. I've played some pretty bad Gibson Les Paul Standards and Customs over the years and a few really great ones as well.

I also have a little piece of crap Dixon Flying V that I had fretwork done, pickups replaced, pots replaced, Kahler whammy put on back in the early 80's and that guitar plays and sounds amazing to this day. $200.00 guitar and $300 to $400 put into it made all the difference in the world. It's not the same as my Les Paul, of course, but still plays well and sounds great for what it is. It's a great backup guitar and the only guitar I own with a whammy bar.

MichaelT: the Epiphone fretwire, at least on my Epi LP (Plustop Pro), is subpar though. It's a year old, and the frets have thin flat slivers on them. Looks like that, anyway. Maybe some Gorgomyte.

So you have to factor in a re-fret in the original price. Or, I have to, anyway. I would prefer to pay a little more for decent fretwire from the start. Particularly since it's so damn good otherwise.

Well, I'm not all that enamored [razz] of Gibson Fret wire, either. No more than I play, anymore, I seem to have to

get (at least) a crown, level, and polish, every year or every other year. So....??? But, I don't have a "feather

lite" touch, either. So, I'm sure that's part of it. But, my 2 Epi's don't seem to need fret work as often,

though my vintage '66 Casino, would (no doubt) need a total refret, as there's precious little height left. But,

it still plays as well, or better, than any guitar I currently own, new or used. Very low action, and no fret buzz

or dead spots, at all! My 2003 AIUSA Sheraton, is just fine, still, as well! So...???

Yes, but of course it's meant to be.

The whole point is to get people going. And it succeeded very well.

So it is quite possible to consider this as a very worthwhile thread.
