1964 SG with bigsby

post-80150-081208400 1471286927_thumb.jpgHello, my father once gave me this old SG. He's had in it his possession for a long time, although he never played on it. The serial stamp on the head says 186196, so according to this guide (http://archive.gibso...RIALNUMBERS.pdf) it would have been built in 1964.

Since I'm a jazz pianist I have little knowledge of guitars. Could someone confirm my findings and if possible, give me some more info on this specific guitar? I'm very interested. Besides, for at least insurance purposes, I wonder if someone could give me an indication of today's value of this instrument. See the URL for pictures.

Thanks!

Hello and Welcome;

From the pics in your link I'm gonna say it's a ~ '73 standard due to the volute, the harmonica bridge, and the block markers. If you could get the codes off the back of the volume/tone pots (assuming they are original) we could probably help you date it more accurately.

Regarding value, completed ebay sales will give you the current market pricing.

I'm sure some other forum members will be along shortly to offer up their opinions as well.

Nice looker by the way.

The guitar pictured was built sometime between 1973 and 1975. This can be determined from the model ("Standard"), headstock "volute", the "Made In USA" stamp, and "Harmonica" bridge. These are ALL 70's "Norlin Era" traits. The 1XX,XXX serial numbers were also used AGAIN during this period.

The best way to narrow down the year of manufacture is by the potentiometer codes.

A quick check of e-bay "sold" listings shows market value of this guitar to be in the $1000-$1500 range.

Thanks for your responses! I shot some pictures of the inner electronics:

Some digits are hard to read but I think the codes are the following:

1377344

70-028

If i remember correctly 137 indicates CTS pots and the 73 44 indicates 44th week of 1973 and the rest is the part #
