Amp for Epiphone Les Paul Standard Pro

Hi all,

New to the group, so any help is appreciated. I'll try to be as descriptive as possible... I'm an acoustic player mainly, and just bought a Epi Les Paul Standard PRO in an effort to be more versatile in my music. Now I need an amp to power behind it, and I was looking for some recommendations. I know the Marshall to LP is a classic combo, and apparently Vox is just as good... I'm a rhythm player strictly, (no lead at all) and I play mainly rock/pop rock (think Toad the Wet Sprocket, Gin Blossoms, Counting Crows, Goo Goo Dolls mixed with modern rock like The Script, OAR, The Frey). I like clean open chords for verse and the potential to get some distortion (not major overdrive) on the chorus when needed through power chords or bar chords. My budget is a kicker... I'm looking to spend under $150, and more than likely will be looking for used amps on Craigslist in an effort to get a better amp for a good price. I don't really have any stores near me that have a ton of amps that I can just spend the day plugging around and hearing different types.

Here's a video of a demo that pretty much sold me on the guitar. This is exactly the type of sound that I'm looking for when I say "clean".

starting at 1:41 through 2:48. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Fender with an LP?

google that and you'll find that more people than you think use an LP with a Fender amp. Personally, I love my Blues Jr. regardless of which guitar I'm playing, including my LP.

Fender makes some awesome amps, don't short change them.

Personally, I am a fan of Music Man amps. If you can find/afford one, you'll never look back. Some folks dislike the distortion sound that they get but, if that's the case, find a pedal that you like. The clean sound of these amps is legendary and they are powerful and louder than you will most likely ever need. The only drawback is that they're a bit pricey nowadays; usually in the $400-800 range depending on wattage and condition. Check on eBay; there's always a few up there. Good Luck and Play Well!

  • 2 weeks later...

Stop spamming the Epi forum with your incessant whining. Nobody wants to hear about how much you think Epiphones suck, time and time again.

I've got as many gibsons as I have epihpones, if they sucked as SG player likes to say they do... I wouldn't own 1...

so +1.. as I've had enough of this crapola too

He's entitled to his opinion, but it becomes disruptive, because he just goes on and on and on. WE GET THAT YOU DON'T LIKE EPIPHONE. Now please stop posting about it.

opinions are fine, we should debate valid points till the cows come home but the trolling,, not quite the same... I think he does it cuz he knows it irks people (which by definition is trolling.)

But that said I do love that white SG of his tho!! :)
