You really should do a test build first.... Spending that much and then getting it wrong will be painful.... (I know all to well about that).. So id say, get some cheap wood, do some testing, try some things out.. THEN when you are happy you know what to do then go for some nice wood..... That's what I thought when I first started... And its not really any harder than doing anything else, the hardest part for me was getting the tenon and pocket right (which is why I then did two neckthrough builds :)).... You could just find a discarded pallet or something like that and practice.... and that's all you need to do, practice just once or twice.. Once to get the idea, and maybe the second or third time to get it all right. I was really lucky when I started, I found a local joinery company who makes really big wooden stuff, like staircases and large frames and the like... They have a shed load of large offcuts and I was able to buy that really cheap.... The one thing I did do was watch as many Youtube guitar build videos as I could... that REALLY helped me. That makes it way easier for me..
