On Thursday, 25 August 2016, Rudy Van Gelder died at his home in Englewood Cliffs, N.J.: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/26/arts/music/rudy-van-gelder-audio-engineer-who-helped-define-sound-of-jazz-on-record-dies-at-91.html?_r=0

One of the most legendary recording and mixing engineers ever, he helped develop the sound of jazz recordings. Over the years he set standards for the recorded sounds of voices and instruments as well.

R.I.P., Rudy. :(

Many of my albums are Van Gelder recordings or masterings.

I prize my Blue Notes; even though they are not the highly valuable vintage ones, those I bought back in the 70s still have 'Van Gelder' stamped in the run-out.

Quite a guy. He recorded them all, pretty much, and did it well.
