baconandcoffee
Hi, I'm trying to find out the year and model of this mando I just bought. From everything that I can find, it seems to be an A-00, but I'm not sure. I've read from numerous sources the same quote that they were only oval-holed for one year, 1933, but I know Gibson history is full of exceptions. It has a carved back, and decoration on the inside rim of the soundhole, with a bound top and dark sunburst. The finish is a look-alike of my 34' L-50 (which has the dimensions of an L-30). I'm figuring mid 1930's to '42. Any advice? The link below is to the page I bought it from (for $600!), with pictures. https://reverb.com/item/2791003-gibson-a-1940-s-dark-sunburst thanks! OldCowboy
To the best of my knowledge and research, you have a 1933 A-00.
baconandcoffee
Thanks OC! Thats what I was thinking too, except for the carved back, which is listed as a 1936 addition to the 00 model. Maybe that is more likely than an oval hole after '33? Certainly looks to be an A-00 from the decoration (or lack of). RC
baconandcoffee
Well, the Spann's guide lists the FON as an A-00 from 1933. Thanks guys! Right you are.
