charlie brown
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ESDP16FBNH/sn11556718 3 out of the 4 (in stock) of this particular ES-335 series shown have crooked Truss Rod Cover's drilled and mounted. I can see one getting out, once in awhile, but 3, to the same dealer??! And, WHY didn't Sweetwater send them back, on a QC issue, alone? Especially for $3500 dollars apiece!! PFFF!!! Hawkesman
That really sucks! It's not difficult to line the things up properly. Maybe the subtle (and angled) 'F' hole picture on the TR cover confused them?!
charlie brown
Amazing, that they're so blatantly off axis, and no one caught it, at the factory or at the dealer! CB
capmaster
Recently I found this one at Sweetwater and posted it, albeit for another reason, into a different topic. charlie brown
That's (equally, or more) astonishing, given CS prices and all! I wonder if the dealer tried to return it, and Gibson gave their stock "It's within tolerances" spiel?! Even for Gibson USA prices, there's no excuse for shoddy assembly, even if it's only the TRC! In fact, because of it's need to BE centered, it's a lot more obvious a flaw, when it's not, than other "flaws" might be. CB

charlie brown
I just e-mailed my "sales rep" at Sweetwater, to give him the "heads up" on that issue. I'm pretty sure, they don't want to let those go out, "as is?!" Hopefully, anyway! Funny, the things one finds, just "browsing," these days. zigzag
Knowing Gibson, the truss rod cover is probably on straight. It's the head stock and neck that are crooked.

charlie brown
More importantly.. Whats your verdict on the 2017 SGs horn tapering??? Well, it appears (again) they've retained the pre-2013 narrower bevels, and NO horn tapering, EXCEPT in the HP versions. And, in those, they still misplace the front strap button, from center to upper horn! MAYBE some folks like that?? But, you all know me...I'm a early 60's bevels and horn tapering lover!!! "If it ain't broke, don't 'fix it!'" Without that, they just seem like knockoffs...NICE knockoffs, to be sure, but just not quite "right!" 2013 seemed (to me, anyway) to the "banner year," for Gibson USA SG's! Correct beveling, and horn tapering, and no odd inlays, or funny signatures, or holograms. But, as always, that's just me/my humble opinion. Retired
What gorgeous guitars though. Love some of the grain patterns on the last 3. Maybe you could convince the store to knock off a Grand? Lol

Maybe you could convince the store to knock off a Grand? Lol Gorgeous, is right! That's why it's such a shame, they didn't drill the TRC holes correctly, and even let them out of the factory, like that! CB

charlie brown
I can never understand this. Rear headstock of a Gibson Pat Martino (have posted this before): You know....how much would a simple card template cost? ](*,) EXACTLY! It's simply silly, to send out all these otherwise beautiful guitars, with sloppy, crooked drilled TRC holes! I found 2 more, today...on Sweetwater's site. 2 ES-355's (Red) for 5 Grand apiece! http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ES5516SCBG They're not quite a blatant, but they're definitely NOT straight! A template or "jig" would cure that for no appreciable cost, to the factory, at all! CB
Zentar
In "Beatles Gear Book" there is a blowup of the back of Lennon's Casino where he installed the gold Grover tuners himself. One he put on really crooked. This was done during his LSD days. If you listen to some of Lennon's latter Beatle music it sounds strange.

He "unwired" one of the pickups, on his Ric 325, for some reason, as well! And, his questionable "paint jobs" are another story. LOL But, for the Gibson factory to do such a sloppy job, on such a simple thing as centering a truss rod cover, is inexcusable! CB
