My soon to be Epi LP Standard.

I dropped off a soft case for the shop to hold it in, since when I went to make a payment, I found out it was wrapped in plastic after I put money down on it. That would not do. I don't care if it's a Poly finish, I have seen what plastic and bubblewrap can do to nitro guitars, so I want to be on the safe side regardless. But. Here's my soon to be LP. An 07 plaintop Standard cherryburst. I may sneak some Seymour Duncans in it, once I decide whether I like the Alnico Classics. This guitar looks like it was hung up, or in the back of a closet in the case, and never played. If they did play it, they were into finger picking, because the pickguard is in perfect almost new condition. This should satisfy the LP need for a while. CTS pots will go in, maybe even something better if I can swing it. Some nicer capacitors too, a metal jack plate if it is plastic, and of course a better position switch. I want to make it sound as nice as I can before I decide on changing pickups. It might not be the baddest axe on the planet, but I love it just the same.

The striped back flip flops like crazy. Super deep looking too. A nice piece of wood!

Very nice. Looks to be in excellent condition. I've seen the plaintops where the wood had different shades where it was mated, yours looks very even, a good match. Congrats and HNGD when you have it home!

I guess I never considered the wood could be badly matched, since it wasn't. Seriously though, that back is WAY nicer than even the picture lets on. It looks like a giant piece of hard candy. My phone camera might be going bad on me. It only focuses when it feels like it.

Very nice looker you have (or are about to have!) there. I think the Alnico Classics are pretty good and should definitely be played with before switching them out. Well I can vouch for the neck anyway. I have a LP Traditional Pro which has a ProBucker in the bridge position.

Well, HNGD to me!!! I sold a couple of no longer used items, and made the last two payments at once. I am not sure what it's problem is yet, but it seems very harsh sounding. I stopped by a guitar store on the way to pick up a new set of strings, and they would not do a debit transaction under ten bucks. Really? Maybe I will go back with cash, or maybe I will just skip over a store that forces you spend ten bucks or nothing. Anyway, I am hoping it is mostly the original strings that are still on it, but while none of the controls make racket, the bridge volume holds full volume and drops only at the last 1/4 turn of the knob. The strings are also sticking in the nut badly. I thought the $60 SG was bad on tuning! Anyway I did a quick intonation job and it did respond fairly well. Still harsh though. Trying to play bar chords with distortion actually gave me a headache, lol. I had planned to replace the entire harness, pots, output jack, switch... The whole deal. Maybe a kit I found that has CTS pots and orange drop caps. Right now it's kind of sounding like a Hondo through a 15 watt practice amp, with the OD channel on, and bass knob zeroed. It definitely has some power though.

Advil taken, and waiting for it to kick in now. [thumbup] Still excited to have a Les Paul. Even an Epiphone...

While I have the strings off, I am DEFINITELY going to check if the pickups got swapped, because they sound suspiciously close to ceramic, or maybe swapped from a lesser guitar? It's not very warm and fuzzy sounding. Not by a long shot.

Just turned the amp on, and playing at low volume even with distortion sounds okay? Maybe it was the headache making it seem harsh. Strings definitely need replaced! The three higher strings are black. So far I have bent them without breaking one. I swear they're the original 2007 strings.
