Ugliest Expensive Guitars Ever?

We are all opinionated.

As humans, we have our likes and dislikes, and very rarely do we agree on anything.

But I must say, these two top my list when it comes to guitars that:

a. cost a lot

and

b. do not appeal to me in the slightest

Both the Fender Elite Stratocaster Sky Burst and the Gibson Les Paul Silverburst look (to me anyway) like they just stumbled out of a Panama City Beach, Florida air-brush t-shirt shack.

In other words, they look unusually cheap and tawdry for such (otherwise) pricey and reputable instruments.

And it's really just about the cartoonish paint-jobs, in my opinion.

I have no doubt that they are top-quality in fit, finish, and all the important player's details.

But the paint schemes just reek of carnival ride tilt-a-whirl garishness.

Am I smoking dope here?

Is it just me?

Yup.. Just you :P

I don't really mind either of them and I quite like the silverburst...

Mehh it is what it is.. We like what we like and don't like what we don't like.. What you gonna do?

If we all liked the same things, life would be much simpler... but REALLY boring..

Here is my 2011 L6S Silverburst guitar. It came in 2013 at a blowout price, and I couldn't resist adding her to the Antique Natural one of the same model I already had owned then for more than a year. The day before the buy I wouldn't have guessed I'd ever have an instrument with that finish, but she looks quite nice, and a photo can't do her justice:

For comparison, here are my 2011 Antique Natural remake and the Natural 1973 L6-S original I bought used:

As you might see, I'm a follower of the TP-6 finetuning tailpiece, using eight of these in total.

This is the ugliest LP I can find.

The bigsby looks like it shouldn't be there. Add to that the dead caterpillar flame job and its sickbags on standby.

...

I agree for both finish and Bigsby.

...

Myself? I quite liked the blue strat.

If she had a Floyd Rose system, I would like her, too, but this is just me :)

The only thing about the SB Custom I don't like is the price.

The Strat may look a tad extravagant to some, but I'm ok with it. I'm much more open to weirdness with Strats, that said my favorites are natural with black pickguard and my #1 choice would be cream.

Oh and Cap, two awesome looking beasts you have there! Love both finishes.

What about a nicely aged silverburst Custom?

Bence.

Now that looks a lot better.

I guess it's all in the darker hues.

And Cappy, your 2011 Antique Natural remakes and 1973 L6-S original are gorgeous in my opinion.

I have always loved natural finishes.

:)
