Macronaut
I ran across this at AMS. http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-GIB-LPCSR-MACH1-LIST I have never seen one before and they seem to still have quite a few in stock from 2015. The price is very attractive, though I'm not crazy about active pups. I can not find much info on it. Was this one of Gibson's flops? Or, could it be a decent deal on a new Les Paul? Any info or opinions appreciated. Thanks ahead, Bill
rct
I only know that I don't think they are active pickups. rct
Macronaut
I only know that I don't think they are active pickups. rct The specs. here http://www.chorder.com/electric-guitars/gibson/les-paul-classic-rock-series-10945 states they are and I assumed they were when I saw the 9 volt battery cover on the cavity cover. (MSRP:$4,165, which means little I know)... Original price about $2,500 down to $1,600 ....peaked my interest but also made leary since there are so many of them in stock from various venders from 2015. GibSinCity
The pickups aren't active. But can be boosted an "additional 15 db through a mini-switch which replaces the second volume knob". This is different from active pickups which can sound flat and non, "organic". The "boost" would be more like a pre-amp pedal. https://youtu.be/7HK09Peg0gg
sparquelito
I like that guitar a LOT. (I only wish I had some extra cash laying around the house.) Thanks for posting that, Macronaut. :)

Thanks for posting that, Macronaut. :) I'm still not sure how I feel about the Marble because I like the beautiful AAAA maple on the standard I'm waiting on. Also, I'm not certain if the earlier generation G-force will cause more grief than it's worth. For exactly half the price of the standard I want, It does seem to warrant serious consideration. Rabs
Well its not that it was a failure.. They just went through a stage of some weird finishes.. Kind of love it or hate it type thing I think. And yes the battery is just for the boost switch for which you sacrifice a second tone pot.... Heres the original Gibson page http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-USA/Les-Paul-Classic-Rock-Series-II.aspx If you like the finish it would certainly be a unique Gibson to own Did you ever see the swirl LPs? http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-USA/Les-Paul-Studio-Swirl.aspx http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-USA/Gibson-USA-Anniversary-Flood-Les-Paul-Studio.aspx

charlie brown
Well, they're not my "Cup of Tea," BUT...given their limited release, and unique finishes, they could very well be "collector's items," at some point, in the future? Stranger things have happened, for sure. CB

Twang Gang
I think it depends on what style of player you are whether you'll like it or not. The Burstbuckers are pretty hot pickups, and with the 15db boost switch they will really be hot. If you are looking for a LP that can play some smooth jazz tones on the neck pickup with the tone rolled off - this probably isn't the one you want. But if you want to turn it up and kick some a** you'll probably love it. The price is certainly good - opinions are very split on G-Force and zero fret nut. Marble finish?? If you can buy it, try it and return it if not satisfied then go for it. But if it is an "All Sales Final" type price then probably best to play and hear one before taking the leap. I think I may have talked myself out of even considering this guitar even with such an appealing price, mostly because this type of finish doesn't seem...well...natural for a Les Paul. Mr. C.O. Jones
I really like it. It would only need a set of Kluson's and another knob for the pot to replace the boost switch. But that could be a problem looking at those knobs.
