Hello Gibson

I got an old SG. The seriel is 39091.

Can you help me fint out the year it was 'born'? and I think it is a SG special - Could this be true.

Had it for about 20 years.

Hope you can help :-)

Hi David.

Definitely looks like an early SG Special but the serial has me stumped for the time being.

I can get to my ref. books in the morning but AFAIK all Gibson electrics after late 1960 (which, as you will know, was when the Les Paul range became the SG) the serial numbers were all 6-digit.

The lack of a 'Les Paul' name plate at the body/neck/p'g area suggests post-'60 so I don't know quite what to make of it so far...

I'll try to have a better idea in the morning!

Philip.

Your serial number dates to 1961. 5-digit numbers were used up through 1964.

Thanks, Jim, for bringing up that site. My (to be fair, very old) reference books had no such info listed.
