Tim Staffell
Can anyone tell me what kind of lacquer is on the Blueshawk? There seems to be a fairly common problem with the lacquer cracking, and this is happening to mine. I'd like to refinish it, but I need to know what kind of lacquer it is.... btoth76
Hello Tim and welcome to the Forums. Gibson guitars are finished with nitro-cellulose lacquers. Good luck... Bence
Versatile
Hi Tim and welcome.... Nitrocellulose lacquer is prone to cracking(often described as 'checking') Some folks regard this as 'character' and do not worry over it Checking can occur at any time, sometimes brought on by temp/humidity fluctuations If a guitar is refinished with nitro...it may well check again at some stage On the other hand, there are guitars decades old which have not checked...
