childofman68
Hi everybody I'm from Italy, I am not a PRO guitarist but play mainly acoustic, nylon and electric guitar since I was 15 yo, I own 3 main el. guitars: 2 amazing MIJ Strats, a wonderful korean Epiphone DOT (1998) which I upgraded with Gibson Classic 57/57+ and CTS pots/Switchcraft switch few years ago, plays beautifully. I really love the Gibson neck shape and humbucker sound, and the DOT starts being a little heavy and too big for me, now (I'm 48 and suffering with my back, neck,..due to the intensive traveling) I am going to purchase for next Christmas a wonderful GIBSON ES-339 used I found online sold by a known and verifiable guitarist, but cannot test it. Recevied few videos showing a perfect guitar, in perfect shape, sent the serial to Gibson for checking, and listened to it played by the owner. It's a red Antique Cherry from 2007, when the 339 model started in Memphis, as a "Custom Shop" (but really it is not a CS). Not among the first 900 gears produced, she's the 4091st guitar from that year. COA, docs available, rigid case with gold CS GIBSON logo on it. Everything seems to be perfect. The price is very good being sod at 1,000 euro which is about the same price in dollars wit today's exchange rate. I have not found any 339 on the web used at less than 1400bucks. Should I be concerned about the price? I have no idea of how the 339's models changed since 2007 so it could be that the price dropped a lot in the recent years, or that the new ones are much better or have been improved. I would be happy if any of you might provide a feedback to my concerns. Thanks to everybody, regards.
Bernie69
Sorry childofman for my late answer. :( I hope you have purchased the guitar. If not, do not wait. I owned exactly the same 339 from the same year and I can tell you that it was an amazing guitar. ( I Now own an ES359 ) I sold mine 1400 French Euros two years ago and it was a bargain for the happy guy who bought it. Nowadays the 339 have seen their features improved a little but the price has jumped toward the sky. With your 1000€ you will even not be able to buy a 339 studio, which does not play in the same field as the original 339. The 339 from these times really was a small size 335, with the same quality and dazzling sound. So , I hope you'll take the right décision an have a nice time with your 339 (as I had for some years). Merry Christmas and Happy New year
