i know a guy with an early 70's (i think) lp custom. he just had it re fretted. he's also had 3 neck breaks. it's been his gigging guitar since new. there's alot of missing paint, and gouges and scratches, etc. you could offer him any guitar under the sun and he wouldn't trade it. he'd sooner give you one of the kids.

And the guitar really is in fantastic condition.

What's the story here? Did you ever find out WHY the guitar spent the lion's share of 60 years in a basement?

Well, $472 in 1956 is $4,214 in 2017 dollars (adjusted for inflation). The original owner must have been pretty well off because the average yearly income in 1956 was about $3,500...that's about 13% of his income, before taxes. That is one expensive guitar!

Well, we can only guess how much it is worth, but my advice would be... don't dare play it! And I hope guitar values keep going up.
