C-RAM
I spied this advertised as a 'Nighthawk case' for a bargain price and snapped it up. I KNOW it's not a Nighthawk case, but interestingly enough, it fits a Nighthawk, a Les Paul and a Melody Maker ALL passably well... really nicely made by our neighbors up North, features include non-locking latches and a hard rubber handle. It has thick, springy cushioning under the top lid, so it secures an instrument firmly right at the neck rest, perhaps the best part of its design. Measures 13" at the lower bout, 10" just under the neck rest, 40" long. I *think* I know what it's for, but I'd like some affirmation. Early 70's era is my guess. I only have a padded gig bag for my Melody Maker, so I think I'll keep it for that.
OldCowboy
Could it have been meant as an aftermarket 'one size fits several'? If so, it was a good idea - that's a nice case!
charlie brown
I looked up "Gibson '80's Cases"...and found one, identical, designated '70's and 80's case, for Les Paul Triumph, some SG models, and EB (Bass, I suppose) models, as well, of that era. It must have been short lived, as LP Triumph (6-string and bass) seem to be shown with more form fitting cases, as is common, today. So...??? Maybe someone else, here, will have more detailed information? Gibson has used a lot of different style cases, over the years. My '68 LP Custom and '68 SG Standard, came in a case exactly like the one below, only with "yellow/gold" interior "Plush." https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GWEELEC Not sure, if "Gator" made them, back then, but it's identical, save the interior color. kidblast
one of my friends has an EB0 base, that's the same kind of case he got when he bought,, not sure of the year, but it was probably sometime in the 70s.
Searcy
A Victory bass came with those cases.
C-RAM
one of my friends has an EB0 base, that's the same kind of case he got when he bought,, not sure of the year, but it was probably sometime in the 70s. A Victory bass came with those cases. Thanks, guys! I couldn't come up with any data or photographs to link it to either an EB-0 or Victory bass, but I did score a few matches to a kind of rare bird, the IV bass: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1987-Gibson-Bass-IV-electric-bass-NATURAL-MAHOGANY-rare-thunderbird-pickups-/261647442060?hash=item3ceb67208c:g:yEwAAOSw54xUVUi9 https://reverb.com/item/1767006-gibson-bass-iv-1987-red https://reverb.com/item/4397440-gibson-iv-1987-bass-w-ohsc As OldCowboy mentioned - it would be a good idea to bring this one back; it evidently fits a pretty wide variety of guitars/basses! kidblast
here' a good example: http://www.hillscloud.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/eb0-1.jpg I happen to have an Epi EB bass. It's a great fit for me. and the very little bass playing I'm required to do, as it's the same scale as a guitar, but a 4 string bass..
