P90 Metal covers

Hi again

I am still trying to find a P90 that sounds as good as the one on my Casino Elitist. They are going to replace a set of P100 on a LP DC.

The hum coming from the plastic ones are too much for me but I have also realised that plastic covers sound different than metal covers and my Casino has dogear metal ones. Since it's the sound of the Casino I am trying to get close to on the LP I now look for black metal covered P90s. Preferably sounding much like the Gibsons in my Casino.

But does that exist.....

PS Sorry for still posing on this subject but it's really difficult to find any first hand knowledge around here. Also you may wonder why I don't just use the Casino. It's because it feeds uncontrollably on certain overdrive settings and I want to keep the changing of guitars on stage to a minimum.

All the best

Henrik

Kent Armstrong makes very nice P90 chrome dog ears. They are drop-ins for Casinos. Made in Korea I think. DCR measures 8.1ko or 8.2ko in my set compared to 12.0ko Gotohs which I removed. They utilize the same 42awg wire and A5 mags as the Gibsons. These are a vast improvement over the regular Casino dog ear P90s. KA was the only maker I found who made drop-in chrome dog ear P90s.

BTW is you want black dog ears there are several makers who produce them. They are easy to find. Sorry I don't remember who makes them.

If you have an Elitest I think you already have real Gibson P90s.

Sorry if I was a little unclear.

I have a LP DC and a Epiphone Casino Elitist (among others). The Epiphone has Metal dogear Gibson P90s on. The LP DC has P100 which I find a little undynamic and also too bright.

I like the sound of the metal covered Gibson P90s. The LP is not dogear so I am looking for metal P90s (not dogear) and in black.

The plastic P90s are too noisy for my taste and I find the noiseless alternatives are more similar to P100 than to P90. Of course I haven't tried them all but the ones I did try was not convincing to me and judging from what i can find on the net I am not the only one.

I know it will not sound the same as the Epiphone but it will get a lot closer and I won't have to deal with the Casino feedback issues.

BTW This is not a P100 bashing, I love them for jangly sounds but the hi end overtones messes with the overdrive and the real P90 doesn't

All the best

Henrik
