1998 SJ45 Deluxe Cutaway.... is this legit?

This guitar is for sale locally. I have not seen or played.

I thought I saw that the cutaway version of the SJ45 was NEW from Gibson on the SJ-45 this year or last?!?

Did Gibson make cutaways then? Are they rare?

I am new to the forum... but am going to try to post pics.

I used to play some acoustic... and am a Tobias Killer B 5 bass player... and want to get a quality acoustic to start up again.

I all of the sudden thought... is this really a Gibson?

What should I look for?

Appreciate all you assistance. ps... the are asking $750.

If it COULD be legit... do you recommend I take it to a tech to make sure the neck etc... is good to go?

I have a good tech that sets up my basses.

Thanks!

Mark

They couldn't even come close on the sound hole label.

Suggest you Google some pix of Gibson j45s from this century to get a 'feel' for what they look like.

One litmus test - the torque rod cover should have 2 screws and be shaped identically to 'legit' ones. It is a distinctive, bell shaped piece of black plastic almost their 'trademark'.

While copies can obviously copy it, the 'knock off' thieves are usually too lazy. Your example didn't have a torque rod cover in the head. Probably because there's no torque rod !!!

Good Luck and Welcome !
