So I took a gamble and purchased a J-45TV online, sight unseen. Good lord I'm glad I did. This thing is without doubt the best guitar I've ever played and hasn't even been played in yet. Anyway here's some guitar porn for you lot:

the only issue I have is that the tuners are absolute garbage, does anyone have any recommendations for replacements?

Thanks!

Beautiful!! As FortyYearsPickn said, you may list after others but this is the only guitar you'll need. A good J45 will do anything and everything, fingerstyle, flatpicking, strumming, lead, the lot. My '67 is an astounding all-rounder. I think the reason I love my SJ100 so much is that it has the body size and neck of an SJ200 but shares a lot of tonal qualities with a J45, being spruce over mahogany.

Hep for your doze of good luck.

J-45's are excellent guitars. Absolutely on the world-wide top 5. And most of them - though in different ways - hit the bell.

I personally like the guardless look - it emphasizes the elegant and unique shape of these slope-shouldered Gibsons.

Congratulations on your acquisition. I am sure you will enjoy it for many years of playing.

I kept the pickguard on my J-45TV. Many don't like it (as much as I dislike the guard on a 'Bird which is why I won't buy one) but I tend to work on the basis of that's how it comes, so that's how it remains.

That is a nice looking TV 45. I have had one and played several and the seem very to be consistent from one to the next.

Tuners? The Waverly Ivoroid knobs. That guitar deserves them and the extra holes would be covered by the originals, should you decide to reverse. I am not a fan of repros either.

Those look to be Stewmacs Golddn Age tuners. You might contact them and explain the issue your having with the tuners. They may replace them for you.

Yeah, they look like the ones I put on my 2008 J-50 (but mine are silver). I like the way thing look, but they are just very stiff, I lubed mine with some light lithium grease and that helped, but I think it's a design issue and unless they have changed I doubt that replacement will be any better.

I replaced the original tuners on my 1965 J-50 with Kluson replicas and they are terrific. They look just like the originals but have a higher gear ratio that makes them operate really smoothly. They are the closed back design however. WD Music now owns the Kluson name: http://www.wdmusic.com/kluson.html

This must be a latter TV when they were not installing the pick guards, but putting them in the case. So you could place it were you wanted.

After the issue with the early models pick guard placement over the rosette.

Open back tuners were also later models

I like to think I have the best TV made [rolleyes] . Hope you enjoy yours as I do mine

Do you know what year it was built? Curious because I'm currently looking at a used one online.

NiD ! ? That was a fast honeymoon!

Oh, and to OP P-90: Happy NTVD.

Still loving the Bird TV, so much so that J-45 TV seems like a good sibling.

I'm not taking to my new to me stage deluxe so much--love the neck, but the wide body too big for my taste.
