Megafrog
I got this new 2016 SG Special 70s Tribute on clearance at Guitar Center over the weekend for a song. It is pretty neck heaven but the guitar is an awesome player. I like the G-Force and Zero Fret. This sustains like crazy and stays in tune quite well. Note the lack of beveling on the lower horn on the back. This is due to where and how the neck joins the guitar. The beveling looks weird but it plays fine. merciful-evans
That's beautiful! Love the look of the wood & colour. What kind of pickups are they?
Megafrog
The pickups are called "tribute" pickups on the Gibson site. The sound is a bit beefier than 490s in my opinion.
Searcy
Very cool! I like the new G-Force tuners. They look a little easier to get along with than the locks on my 2015.
Megafrog
I am impressed at how far these tuners have come. I have a 2014 SGM and it has the Min-e tune system on it. Basic functionality is the same but precision is so much better now. This is better than my 2015 Les Pauls, SGs or Midtown Standard for tuning precision. That, is the original early '60's beveling, on the back, and deeper bevels on the front between horn tips and the neck. As is the horn tapering towards their ends. It's not about how/where the neck attaches. HP versions have the early '60's bevel and horn tapers. "Traditional" versions (these days) do not. CB Thank you for the clarification on that. The guitar is a great player but it is a bit neck heavy due to the location of the strap button. I may have to move that.
