62burst Posted May 12, 2017 Share Posted May 12, 2017 Ryan A's amazement about the change in "Stunt Buc's" sound after the neck reset, fret job, loose brace repair, and set up is a fine testament to how an old guitar that's been sitting for years, unused because it was difficult to play with it's high action and poor sound, can become someone's absolute favorite after quality work by a professional luthier. Still not sure of how that whole process of silk screening works, and how those stars and the lettering got put on to the new headstock overlays. My friend Glenn Sinnock of Glenn's Guitars (google it...his website is pure guitar porn and he's a GREAT guy to deal with!) sold Ryan one of the Bucks. zombywoof Posted May 12, 2017 Share Posted May 12, 2017 Buck's guitar was actually built by Semie Mosley (Mosrite) not Harmony. Harmony only licensed his name. If you want a Harmony Buck Owens on the cheap grab an H-164. It is the same guitar with a different paint job and can be had for a fraction of what the Buck Owens model sells for. I had a 1970 Buck Owens in the house for a bit. I did not like it as much as either of my two Sovereign 1260s so it did not stay. E-minor7 Posted May 12, 2017 Share Posted May 12, 2017 What a great job - I dropped by this video a week ago after spinning through some Ryan Adams stuff. The Songwriters Circle with J. Ian and Finn fx. Have to say I'm not a big fan of these guitars. They sound somewhat plain or boxy to me, , , well, that might be the indi-point. However I found a solo a R.A. solo performance where the model he used came across real good. Must have been his #1. I'll try to find it. Meanwhile enjoy this stellar performance with The Cardinals. Jinder Posted March 27, 2020 Share Posted March 27, 2020 I think, sadly, Ryan has some bigger worries on his plate nowadays rather than picking the colour of his guitar to represent his political stance. I've met Ryan a few times, and he has said some nice things about my early records in the past, which helped my career immensely at the time. A friend of mine is close to him, and told me recently that things have fallen apart for him dramatically in the year since the damning NYT article was published. As an initial reaction to the bad press, Capitol dropped his label, Pax-Am, as a subsidiary, and cancelled the release of his planned three records over 2019/2020, which set off a spiral of financial issues, leading to the sale of his studio in LA which he had ploughed over $1m into setting up and stocking with former Abbey Road and Sunset Sound vintage equipment. As the world tour in support of the cancelled 'Big Colours' album was pulled and the social media whirlwind around the negative press gathered speed, his relationship with his management deteriorated and eventually ended entirely. He subsequently suffered a heavy relapse into alcoholism and depression, and gained 40lbs whilst hiding from the glare of the press at home. He has ventured out in public a couple of times since, guesting on guitar at a recent Jesse Malin club show, at which he looked unwell and almost unrecognisable, and has been snapped once while out running in the Hollywood hills, again barely recognisable from his former self. I'm not defending his actions at all, and many would argue that it is no less than he deserves, but it all seems like a tragic waste of a huge talent. He was just unlucky to get caught right in the middle of the whole "Me too" movement. I don't think I can forgive him though for telling Mandy Moore she wasn't an artist because she didn't play an instrument. That girl's voice is an instrument!
