Digger
Here's a few pics that Butch asked me to post for you as he is having trouble doing it. I'm just gonna drop a few pics in here and he can fill you in on the details. Butch sorry to be so slow at doing this for you but I've been flat out like a lizard drinking mate! ksdaddy
I bet I paid less for my REAL Corvette than these go for.
Retired
I stumbled onto this line last week and shared them with Rob. I never knew they existed way back. So I asked Rob if he had ever heard of them and he didn't know of the Gibson Corvette line either. So I looked into them and they made only 200 back in 1960. I've been trying to find a video of someone playing one to hear what they sound like and ran across EBay that had one in mint condition never played for sale. $5,499.99 and it's the black and white Tuxedo Corvette pictured above. Heck, by the 2017 new Gibson prices getting in the thousands, I'd rather get one of these old Corvette guitars then a new one. I just thought they were very sharp looking. So why doesn't Gibson remake one of these models again? I guess China has done just that but there cheap fakes.
Megafrog
I found a link to Gibson's website for the 2003 re-release of these guitars as custom shop models. If you look at the link, the original Gibson Corvette 1960 came out in 1995 as a limited run. http://archive.gibson.com/Press/custom/pr/CustomCorvette.html

cody78
The only reason I've heard of the Les Paul Corvette is because in 1997 I bought a Total Guitar magazine (which I still have) with a main feature on Slash and his red Snakepit guitar on the cover. It had pictures of his collection and he himself had one in the pictures. He was also pictured with the guitar and an actual Corvette at some point in the 90's and I had a poster of it. As someone mentioned this guitar was a special run in the 90's and certainly not produced in 1960. I do like the black and red LP.

Now that white 63 split window looks really nice too Rab's. Ok, so they weren't released until the early 90's? So I would have been 37 in 90 and had all my guitars and amps sold and our son was 7 and I missed that scene of them coming out. Still, I've never seen one being played on stage I can remember. Retired
Well, I kept looking for a sight that told how much they sold for when first released and couldn't find anything. I did find the original black and white Tuxedo Corvette for sale on eBay for $5,500.00 and that one is pictured above and they claim it's mint condition & unplayed. If that's true, they must of sold cheaper then that price since their classics.

It went for just over £14,000, but that's more to do with the name player, so yes they seem like they weren't that expensive when originally released. http://www.julienslive.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/21/lot/5064/SLASH-PLAYED-GIBSON-LES-PAUL-CORVETTE-GUITAR Here's some pictures of his black and red one from the magazine if you scroll down. This is the one he sold I imagine http://www.slashparadise.com/equipment/guitars-slash.php This non-name player owned one sold for nearly £4,500 in 2015 https://reverb.com/item/785983-gibson-1960-les-paul-corvette-tuxedo ...and one more for nearly 5000 euros https://www.vintageandrare.com/product/Gibson-Les-Paul-60-Corvette-1995-21519
Guest Farnsbarns
I played one in 2003. Didn't think anything special of it. That said, I wasn't considering buying it. It was £5k then.
kidblast
some interesting ideas to capture the essence of a vette, and maybe I don't need to say it but these do 0 for me.. different strokes, different folks...
Drog
These are fun and I like the custom aspect to them. If I owned a Corvette, it would be a fun piece to have. Probably not something you would play a whole bunch but more of a conversation piece.
Retired
1498494565' post='1864576']It is interesting that nobody seems to have played one live. I've never seen anyone onstage with one either. That's what I thought too. You would think someone famous would want to stand on stage showing it off. I did some more research on Slash's and found he had sold one at auction a few years back. It went for just over £14,000, but that's more to do with the name player, so yes they seem like they weren't that expensive when originally released. http://www.juliensli...CORVETTE-GUITAR Here's some pictures of his black and red one from the magazine if you scroll down. So the white sting ray 63 split window was commissioned to have 150 made, but only 40 were built. Produced exclusively in Nashville Tennessee, the rare 63' Sting Ray sold for $7,500.00 in 1994. It seems why they weren't played on stage is because of The collectible value of them. I don't know, to me they are very sweet to look at but then I love classic cars. Do I need one? No! I thought I read somewhere they had P-90 pickups in them. I thought I wanted P-90's way back until I played one at GC last year. They were a bit too much for me. Twang Gang
The first one shown in this post was from 2003. That was the 50th anniversary of the Corvette car and thus the 50th logo on the upper bout. I bought a new Corvette in 2003 and a very similar logo was on the hood of the car. There was a Vette magazine that they sent you for a year or so. I remember this guitar being advertised there, and while sort of cool to look at, I didn't care for P-90s and only one volume and one tone, plus they wanted a pretty hefty price for them. I was not familiar with the other models commemorating older Corvettes.

Retired
Thanks guys, when I first saw one I knew nothing about them. At least I know more about them now. One thing is for the price they wanted and if you could find one, I'd probably just sit and stare at it. Maybe play it a bit and wipe it down and stare some more. Twang Gang
No mention of which charity would benefit from this auction - guess it was just Slash's pocket. Seems odd that he would have all this expensive stuff and not have a financial advisor smart enough to set up a charitable foundation??

Retired
1498647849' post='1864952']They do nothing for me, but each to their own. I would, however, like a honeyburst car with a big ole pickguard on the roof. That could be arranged. I have built Drag Racing cars from scratch. Just having the shell of a car and the last one won best appearing car at 2 dragstrips and won 1st place at 3 auto shows. Then a guy wanted me to paint his propane tank at his farm so I was going to do it as the Beatles Yellow Submarine with a periscope, propeller in back and painted yellow with the widows and such. He wanted sunflowers and a monarch butterfly instead. So that's what I did for him and he was super excited with the results. I did Wall painted murals and faux painting for people. Tons of paintings I've done and sold to people.
