Photobucket Changes

So Photobucket just decided to stop allowing users to share images to third-party sites. Unless users pay a new fee that's as much as $400.

That's how people share photos to sites like this. So there's probably going to be lots of blank photo images on these threads.

Bummer. I guess the party's over. [thumbdn]

They've been so bad to use lately anyways. Every time I try to upload a photo I have to close out of a thousand pop ups, even on an iPhone/iPad it will take you to some crap in the App Store over and over again to the point where you can't even use the app.

Hmm...

Is it just me that can see the picture in the post above? Perhaps we can see our own snaps but can't see other folks' pictures?

I noticed a thread yesterday which was saying something about the images being blocked but didn't know why.

EDIT : I just logged-out to see if the image was still visible to a 'guest' and I could still see it.

Perhaps the rules here in the UK are different???

Very strange.

I received an email at 05:30 this morning telling me that;

"WE NOTICED THAT YOU HAVE BEEN USING

PHOTOBUCKET FOR 3RD PARTY HOSTING*

Our Terms of Service does not allow 3rd party hosting with your current account level."

yet my image is still available...for the moment.

What do we do if we don't want to take out a subscription based service; remove all our images from the site?

well, i dunno about you guys, but i can see my image, here in the good ol usa

Yeah, I just get the thing like Pippy got that says that my 3rd party usage is 100%. I'm like "No kidding. What other usage is there?"

Maybe you guys aren't using it 100% for third party whatever. Whatever that's supposed to mean. [unsure]

I have a lot of pics in my library at that place.

It really sucks that I can't use them the way I would like to any more.

Oh well...I'm NOT going to pay them any money; that's for sure! [thumbdn]

"...until it becomes nothing but pornography, advertising, and nickel-and-dime charges for everything you do it will be great..."

I wrote that about the World Wide Web thingy while we were B testing some Netscape interfaces to our servers and stuff. In 1993.

Sucks. I'll take every one off botophucket and close it. Phuck them.

Hmmmmm.... I started paying to get rid of ads last year and it's been working great. Maybe it is only affecting "free" accounts? It was only like 19.99 and it made it soooooo much faster it was worth it.

Can you see this cute puppy pic?

They've been used in this way for, well, since they've been around. I've not received an email from them yet but I guess it's time to start moving things and edit my posts. What a pain that will be.

I stopped using Photobucket many years ago. I don't remember why; likely just quirkiness of the site and the fact that I was on dialup at the time and any weirdness was amplified. I switched over to tinypic, which has ads and popups but seems to work okay otherwise. I know there are a thousand out there but I'm the type that...if it works, why go looking?

I used to have my own website and tried to use it to host things like ebay pics or pics I would post on forums but it never seemed to work right. I was paying ransom to godaddy for the domain name and $60 a year to angelfire for storage and hosting. Godaddy harped at me to renew worse than the NRA and I'm not sure if anyone even shows up at the corporate headquarters at Angelfire on Monday mornings. I killed that whole deal off. No point in keeping a website going for 3 hits a month.

I think you can still store photos there for free. My account still works to just look at the photos. But the sharing with a third party site (like the forum) won't be allowed unless you buy a subscription. As someone else mentioned there were so many popups and ads taking it over that it took forever to just download a couple pictures.

So we'll have to find something else to share our guitar porn. This site won't be near as much fun if we can't see the guitars. [unsure]

Izzy - how do we use imgur?

exposing my lack of technical insight here, but...why can't this site (Gibson forum) just be modified to allow us to simply copy and paste our photos directly into threads from our own files or devices or from the web (making the links anonymous of course) rather than having to use these 3rd party sites at all?

Photobucket is probably the most amateurish POS site I ever go to, but I only need it for here.

OK.

It's gone now.

Even all the pay-to-use offers from Photobucket deny use on 3rd party sites unless you take out the full $399 package.

As rct says, phuk them.

Because that requires server space.. If Gibson tried to give us all a couple of gig server space it would cost them a lot and have to be maintained and backed up regularly...

I've been wondering the same thing for the last 9 years...

I won't bite unless it is VOS, True Authentic, Long Tenon, Non Weight-Relieved 8.2 pound server space.
