willdguitar
Long story short, there is too much relief on my 335, but before tightening I need to replace the nut. Should I do this at full tension, with loosened strings, or should I remove the strings entirely? Thanks!
jedzep
Loosened strings is OK. Is the nut cracked or otherwise screwed up?
Dave F
Be sure you clean off the threads of the rod. If they're caked up with remnants of the softer brass nut, it will just strip out the next nut. I had a J-50 where someone added washers to get the nut on the cleaner part of the thread. After I bought it, I made a die that fit my truss rod nut and cleaned of the thread then put on a new nut. I believe StewMac makes a die for this.
