12 bar blues

Recommended Posts

A beginner example of 12 bar blues with the chords and corresponding scale patterns. Most blues guitarists will just play the major pentatonic pattern within the mixolydian scale here leaving the perfect 4th out.

|: G7 / / / | C7 / / / | G7 / / / |

G(mixo- C(mixo- G(mixo-

G(mixo- C(mixo- C(mixo-

lydian) lydian) lydian)

| G7 / / / | G7 / / / | D7 / / / |

Edit: There are 12 measures in all. The last four measures is whats called a "turnaround" which brings you back to the beginning.
