arlographic
Hello Forum Members. I've often browsed the forum, looking for answers, tips, etc. but have only recently joined. Again, to look for answers, tips, etc. My most recent purchase, 1986 SG Custom (Sept 25 - shown in profile pic), has seen many rough years of playing - yet still remains a gem. I was lucky to find it - and the price paid was too low to pass on. My question is related to pickups used in mid-80's customs. These are all matching, gold pole, PAT.NO.2.737.842 - no sticker, no stamp, large side housing. I just recently set it up, but in my excitement to dig into her, didn't take off the covers to check winding, wires, etc. Not sure if any experts here can identify by just the year and back plate alone? Photos attached. Thanks all.
Retired
Welcome to the forum arlographic. Sorry I'm not one on pickups but there are very good experts here that may be along.
Johnny3j
My guess is that they are Tim Shaw designed PAF humbuckers, but I could be wrong.
uncle mud
My best guess is these are the Tim Shaw reissue pick-ups. If the output is around 7 to 7.3 that's probably what they are. Welcome to the forum.
arlographic
Thanks guys. I looked online to find a back plate layout similar to these, but haven't had much luck. Doing the quick reading, with multimeter, this is what I got: Bridge = 7.4k Middle = 3.8k* (w/ bridge reading) Neck = 7.6k *Not sure how to get a reading off of the middle one, since they're wired out of phase together with bridge. Love this guitar. It has seen many battles and still sounds/plays amazing.
