dc3c46
I am experiencing a nightmare: I have a ticking noise in all my amps, it ticks with a frequency like a clock ticking away seconds. It is extremely pronounced when I use guitars with P-90s. With humbuckers it is hardly to be noticed. I tried everything : Turned computer off, Internet router off, all lights off, TV off, etc. This is driving me nuts. Anyone got an idea?
jdgm
You're not using fx pedals are you? Fridge might have some sort of timer in it.
dc3c46
When did it start and what electrical or electronic devices are new since it started? I noticed it a few days ago, no new devices had been added. I even took my little Blues Jr. (which I hardly use) to another room (no pedals attached) and got the same noise there. badbluesplayer
Might there be a electric fence charger nearby, like on a farm? Got any neighbors with livestock, goats, anything like that? Like This?
dc3c46
Might there be a electric fence charger nearby, like on a farm? Got any neighbors with livestock, goats, anything like that? Yes, there is an electric fence close to my property and the cattle are out there. ( could not watch your link though) Like This?

'Scales
As has been said by others... I've had this happen several times previously and culprits are always either electric fences (though I guess anything with an electric pulse could be similar...alarms maybe) or the refrigerator. Guest Farnsbarns
This might be silly but are you wearing a watch? I've chased a ticking (only for a few minutes) before and realised the pups were picking up my second hand.
surfpup
Do you use power conditioning? No, no air conditioning I think he meant a conditioned power supply I would suggest trying one. It regulates the voltage from you wall and can sort out certain interference. An electrician could explain it better than I probably, but I use one for my tube amps at home. badbluesplayer
Does it not sound so bad when there's nothing plugged in, and then is it worse when you plug in just a cable into the amp, with no guitar? If so, then the interference is from outside the amp, and the cable is picking up the interference like an antenna. That wouldn't indicate a power issue. kidblast
I was thinking the same of what BBP mentions, does it still do it with no cable plugged into the input? When was the last time you re-tubed?
MichaelT
I installed a new wireless router in my room and I'm getting a ticking sound out of my computer speakers. I haven't noticed it from my amps though. I'm interested in what you find out about it.

I have to remove my watch from picking hand and put it on the fretting hand.

jdgm
I reckon it must be the electric fence. Get a power strip with some good filtering.
badbluesplayer
I've had my cell phone give my amp a weird pulsing noise before. Good point! Cell phones and computers can make ticking, farting or other intermittent kinds of noises in a nearby amp. Especially cell phones. Maybe routers might do that too, IDK. Mr. Gibson
My cellphone was the culprit in my case too.
