S2k
Quick question.. If you had the choice between a 1998 ES-335 dot vs a 2013 Figured ES-335 dot at the same price which one would you go for? Basically, which is better value? Thanks! Twang Gang
If you have the chance to play them both, then the one that feels and sounds best to you is the better value. For the same price I guess the 15 year newer one might be better as the electronics, the finish etc have all had 15 years less use, so it might last longer and be in better condition. But again playing them would be the best way to tell which is better for you.
jdgm
Tough call. 1998....but 2013 was a good year, my ES-175 is 2013.
Megafrog
We have no pictures to understand condition, don't know the price and we have never played these two specific guitars. Have you tried them? Which do you prefer? Is the price right for the guitar? You will need to answer that.
rct
Gotta play em. ES-335's don't suck. When I use a 335 I look like I'm 6 playing swordfight with a galvanized trash can lid as my shield. Love 'em, love how they sound, wouldn't be caught dead using one for fear of the viral hilarity the pictures would bring. rct
pippy
...Basically, which is better value?... Neither. You HAVE to play them both to decide which is the one you prefer. This question has no meaningful answer if the guitars cannot be evaluated on their own merits. If you can't play both of them prior to choosing then choose the one which is "prettier" in the hope that it holds its resale value slightly better if it turns out to be a dog playing-wise. Pip. S2k
Thanks for your replies! I know it was a vague question, so was just looking to see if there was a BIG difference somewhere between these 2. (Eg the Nashville made one is 1000% better build than a Memphis one. Etc.. etc..) badbluesplayer
Around 2013 some 335's had problems with the fretboards due to bad wood. Just double check that one to make sure it doesn't have cracks in the binding at the fret ends or any gaps between the binding and the wood or fret ends.
