Does my dream SG exist?

humbucko

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've been searching the internet for a few weeks looking to see if my dream SG exists. It's a pretty simple ask but I think the answer is no... I thought I'd check with the experts here to see if I'm missing any rare models.

I'm essentially after a SG Standard with P90s - but with the small pickguard. That's it. The recent SG P90 Standard has everything I want, I just can't stand the big batwing guard.

I thought about modding a 2016/2018 Special to have P90s instead of minihumbuckers, but it misses the bound neck, headstock detail etc.

The closest I've found is the Gary Clark Jr yellow three P90 SG - this might be what I end up going for https://www.andertons.co.uk/p/SGGCJ17GYNH1/solid-body-electric-guitars/gibson-usa-2018-gary-clark-jr-signature-sg-gloss-yellow

Thanks!

I would go with the Gary Clark model. It looks pretty amazing. I have a 2016 with the p90s and it is a great guitar but it has the big pickguard. If you want to mod a SG to have P90s, take either a 2016 SG 70s Tribute with the mini humbuckers or the new 2018 SG Special model and use that. P90s would fit either nicely.

How about this one? Not a particularly good photo. It has dot inlays instead of trapezoid, but I really like it. And before you ask, I have no intention of selling her. [biggrin]

Here is the link to the archive file at Gibson.com. It's the Guitar of the Week (GOTW) for week #37 in 2007:

You get NOS 2013 SG 50 tribute for 600$ at https://www.musicstore.de/en_US/EUR/Gibson-SG-Tribute-50-s-MET-EB-Ebony-Min-ETune/art-GIT0026176-000#reviewBar

It's satin finish and no pickguard, and with robot tuneres, but 600 for a new gibson is cheap

I got an 70 tribute on the way, with Dirty fingers pickups and robot tuners. Always been curious about those dirty fingers and robot tuners
