Jazz and session master drummer Grady Tate passed away October 8th at age 85.

One of the World's most recorded drummers; you have certainly heard him on many recordings and very likely own albums with him on, too.

In the 1960s he was house drummer for Verve records, appearing on albums by Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell, Stan Getz, Jimmy Smith and many, many more.

A consummate professional who was as at home in almost any musical situation; but he was not really a rock drummer, although he must have played rock sessions.

His session discography must be so enormous it would be impossible to collate and list it. The Wiki entry lists only a fraction of his work.

R.I.P.
