Hi everyone, my first post, it's nice to find a place, where I can talk about how integral a part, Gibson has had on my work, career, and life for that matter. If there was no Gibson guitar, what would I be doing?

My first guitar, I bought when I was nine. I purchased a Gibson SG from what I was told was the first Sam Ash store, in 1968. I'll never forget the day I brought that guitar home, I bought with it, a Sam Ash top, and an

Acoustic bottom, what was I thinking? well, I was 9 years old, but that was where it began. Over the years, I've had quite a few Les Paul's, old ones, not so old one's, a few LP Juniors, reverse Firebirds, a non reverse Firebird, a Deluxe a two great Standards,

a great Dotmarker, had I only held onto those guitars. I think about that a lot, what I would do to get my hands on that Dotmarker. Im sure a lot of you can identify with me on selling our old guitars, wishing you could get them back.

I had a real issue, or say, a concern about buying a newer guitar, it took me close to twenty five years, before i broke down and bought a relatively newer Les Paul, what a nice surprise, after all those years, you would figure they would get it right, and they did, what a shock.

I purchased a 2005 Classic, with a 1960's neck, I guess it was a re-issue of the neck Gibson were using in 1960, aside from the neck, it feels like a Standard to me. It came with 490R and 498T pups on it, and thats something i wanted to get some advice on.

I'm hoping someone might have a recommendation on a good set of pup's to put on this guitar. If anyone has access to PAF's, I'll gladly take them off your hands, but I sense that wont happen to quickly. In all honesty, I have no knowledge of the newer pickups out there, a friend recommended Peter Greene pup's and I will be testing them out shortly. If anyone has any thoughts on what some good choices to consider might be, I would be extremely grateful.

Its great to be here, and I look forward to all this site has to offer!!

Welcome aboard, msp_thumbup.gif you bought a Gibson at 9 years old? I took guitar lessons at 13 my mom paid for, my cousin taught me and I think she bought me the guitar to learn on, if I can remember I think it was a silver metallic solid body. Loved that guitar, wish I still had it. Fred had a Gibson and I loved it, always wanted one since. Took me to 60 years old before I got my first one. Congratulations on all the Gibsons you were able to get. Nicely done.
