rct
2nd or 3rd time around for these Maestro. Best Buy and before that...I want to say Costco or one of the "club" stores. rct
sparquelito
Plays like a dream. Neck like butter. Tone for days and days. Crisp high's, gut-crunching mid's, and swampy lows. Three thumb's 'way up!!
sparquelito
Okay, I'm just kidding. It's Indonesian junk, and only marketed thru K-Mart, Costco, and Uncle Phil's Discount Electronics and Bait Shop. Any casual passers by; Don't buy it. Riffster
Those are quite bottom of the barrel, you'd be better off with a cheap Epi

Pinch
The Captain and Chappers did a video on the 2018 Gibsons, in which I believe they mention the Argos/Wal-Mart "Gibsons". I was stunned to hear them say they're not as good as the real deal.
Beerad12
My parents bought a Les Paul version Maestro for my little brother 12 or so years ago. I believe they got it at K-mart. It was a starter guitar that he never played so they weren't out a bunch of money for him to figure out if he wanted to learn to play guitar. pippy
Perhaps I'm the odd one out (it has been said on occasion) but I'd bet it can be made to sound sweet - be it cheap crappy sub-Gibson or not. I'm almost tempted to get one and do a back-to-back with my R0 just to see if y'all can tell which is which in a blind test............ "Yah!", "Booh!" and "Sucks!" (in various permutations) to all you gear-snobs. Seriously, though; for that price it would be a very tempting project as a Frankenstein mule. Four 'buckers (a la Steve Howe BB); built in o/d box; weird wiring and anything else which takes one's fancy. Pip.
Rabs
I know the answer is probably obvious but it makes me wonder how much better Epiphone would do if they were allowed to used the Gibson headstock shape?
Riffster
Frankly, the only tempting thing about these guitars is the Gibson-shaped headstock. I'm a modder but I have my limits. Having seen some of these guitars at Best Buy a few years ago I was not tempted to get one.
IanHenry
The Les Paul one on the Argos site says it's got a "3-way pick up selector switch" which I find a little odd as it's only got one pickup. I wonder how that works Ian
pippy
...it's got a "3-way pick up selector switch" which I find a little odd as it's only got one pickup.... "Fender Esquire" ring a bell? Not saying it has the same bits'n'bobs internally but it just goes to show that there are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, erm, Ian, than are dreamt of in your philosophy. As I once said................ Pip.

I have thought the same thing Rabs. Epi headstock's just look funny to me. I know it's just looks but if they are licensed to use the Gibson model names why not let them sport the Gibson headstock as well.
Dub-T-123
The old Epiphone headstocks had kindof a cool beveled edge on the sides of the headstock face which the new ones don’t have. That looked a bit cooler IMO. I like the Epiphone shape though
quapman
It's 99 bucks. Whatya want? Had an 80 dollar Squier played real nice. Try it. Can get some decent players real cheap.

cody78
Nothing wrong with cheap guitars if you get a good one. Here's a video for the Maestro SG. Sounds ok to me.
charlie brown
Be careful, some Indy band will adopt one (or more) and make them the next "must have!" Might be a decent "slide" guitar, as well??? Epiphone has a 99 dollar guitar out, now. Kind of a Les Paul Melody Maker with a bolt on neck. http://www.epiphone.com/Products/Electrics/Les-Paul/Les-Paul-SL.aspx Of course, we all know it's the player, not the guitar! Paully
For $99 you could go all Townsend then finish with a massive Jimi :D

Never tried one that cheap though. The main worry would be the neck. Green wood? PS Indonesian guitars are improving I reckon.
Guitar God
Anyone remember when Wal Mart used to sell First Act guitars and GHS strings, haha?
