GuitarGeordie
i have the choice of either a Gibson 1954 ES-175D Jim Dickinson Burst or a Gibson 1959 ES-175D Vintage Burst VOS (2015). Both play well but I unsure as to which is likely to become more collectable in the future. Thoughts / guidance would be appreciated.
Rabs
So are you saying both are re-issues from 2015?
GuitarGeordie
They are both reissues.
Rabs
They are both reissues. Well in that case.. Both guitars are in the same ball park... No one can say which will be worth more in the future and with the large amount of guitars produced today they most probably wont be worth any more than they are now... If we knew what models would be good investment guitars and there was a way to know, we would all be rich by now ;) In saying that, artist models do tend to hold their value a bit more (I think). So just go with the one you like the best and will enjoy the most..
Rabs
So I just went and looked them up.. Am I right in saying one has humbuckers and the other has P90s? If that's the case then id say that would be the decider for a lot of people...

Since the humbuckers were released in ‘57, I guess a ‘54 would only come with P90s I’d go for the ‘59 myself

jdgm
Yes - probably more resale value with the hbs. Both guitars should play more or less the same.
bobouz
Maybe more resale value with the humbuckers, but I'd want a P90 equipped version for sure!
cody78
Both are beautiful guitars, but I'd go for the '59.

Californiaman
I'd go for the P-90s cause I already have humbuckies. See
GuitarGeordie
1508281124[/url]' post='1886984']I'd go for the P-90s cause I already have humbuckies. See As my Lucille, 335 and 339 all have humbuckers type pickups, P90's seem to be the way to go on the 175.
jdgm
Here's my 2013 with P94s:
SteveFord
I would think that the humbucker model would be more desirable and easier to sell but if you're keeping your Lucille why not go with the P90 model for a real change of pace?
