I was surprised to see 2018 SG Std. Basses back out on the Sweetwater site. They have the Heritage Cherry, Walnut, and will be getting the SG Std. in Ebony. I placed an order for a Heritage Cherry. I'm hoping it shows up on Tuesday of next week.

The 2018 is almost identical to the 2015. One thing changed from the 2015, the fretboard inserts are not Mother of Pearl on the 2018.

I played the SG Std. today for about an hour, and didn't want to stop. It sounds great, and plays great also. The frets are dressed very well. This is one of the nicest SG Std.'s I've had in a long time. I have a Walnut SG Std. on order as well. it's really great that Gibson has turned out the 2018 bass series.

The 2018 SG Std. basses are coming out with plain black rod adjustment covers. I called Gibson to see if I could order an SG stamped one. They told me Gibson isn't doing anymore SG stamped rod adjustment covers. Luckily I had one from a couple of years ago. That went on the Heritage Cherry SG. I did find one on eBay for my 2018 Walnut SG Std. when it shows up. I just like the looks of the stamped SG rod adjustment cover.

The 2018 SG Std. Walnut showed up today. It looks amazing as well. What ever problems I had in the past with the QC coming out of the Gibson factory, sure doesn't apply to these two SG Std.'s. they really are great!

The D'Addario ETB92M Nylon strings, and the SG truss rod cover came in today. I've installed the strings, and the cover. Photos tomorrow, it looks pretty good.

The Walnut does have a decent grain in the body.

Sweetwater is moving the SG Std.'s at a good rate.

Yes! I bought one of the two Walnut finishes off Sweetwater last week and I see they've just sold the other one as well.. Mine arrived yesterday; it's my first Gibson since the Sonex 180 I owned back in 1984-85 and it's such a welcome change from my Rick. Gorgeous mahogany, weight just over 7 pounds, no neck dive with my leather backed 2" strap. I was wondering about the non-engraved truss rod covers and did a search about it which lead me to this forum; glad you got in touch with the company. I'll probably pick up an engraved cover off ebay as well.

Welcome to the Gibson site. It's even more quiet down here in bass lowland, than in the regular Gibson forum.
Congrats on your Walnut. It sounds like you like yours, as much as I like mine. There were two Walnuts when I ordered mine. I chose the 7.10 pound one to match my 7.10 pound Heritage Cherry SG Std., I ordered a week before.
I had one SG engraved truss rod cover from a previous SG Std. The other SG cover I did order from eBay. The rep at Gibson basically told me, they aren't turning out SG truss rod covers any more, and they had no more to even order on a parts level. I was able to talk to a parts picker also, and he physically check the parts shelf location where they used to be stocked. NONE.

I'm wondering, if anyone knows why the Gibson 2018 Basses aren't shown on the 2018 listings.

I was just looking through the SG threads, and saw one of the finest Pelham Blue SG guitars. I'd love to see Gibson turn out an SG Std. Bass in Pelham Blue. A beautiful color for any SG. Posted Image

I played The Beatles, "With A Little Help From My Friends" with the 2018 Walnut SG Std. today. It has the most fantastic sound along with that song. The deep full punch from the Humbuckings. You don't give up, or lose anything in the sound. Outstanding!

I have to go along with you. Gibson did a nice job on these. They really are some of the nicest SG Std.'s I've seen in a while.
