Do you name your guitars?

I am sure this thread will have been done before umpteen times although I can't remember having seen it.

I know some of you do name your guitars but I have never felt the need or desire at all. I just call mine for what they are: e.g. 25 / 50; ES345 etc etc.

What about you?

Similar thread on the MLP forum a few weeks back. As for naming my guitars, yeah. The Strat, The Casino, The Dot, The Tele, well, you get the idea.

I'd never name any inanimate object, but if I named my guitars they'd be called 'Mortgage Payment', or 'Dental Work', or 'Snow Tires'. Something along those lines.

Looking at a '58 0-18 on Ebay that would be named 'Are You Out of Your Freekin' Mind', if I buy it.

No.

Never occurred to me to put names to them.

If a band member asks which guitars I am bringing to a gig, I'll say, "The Tele", or "my Les Paul", etc.

Or, "the blue Ibanez", or "my Martin 12-string".

Our girl singer suggested a name for my newer Stratocaster, but it just didn't feel right, (The Hombre, of all things), so I politely never mentioned it again.

I never did for decades. But I started doing that 10 years ago. But only a few of them. I name my Boxers after old horror stars. And I've named a few guitars after my dogs. Boris, Elsa & Bela. the others I just call them what they are. and to be honest, I rarely even refer to those 3 as the names I've mentioned. But I named them just the same.

Nope. I tried it once but they would never come to me when I called. :)

My wife has taken calling my Goldtop, "Goldtoppy" and my '81 V "The Baby." I just use their description. White V, Brown V, Goldtop, Standard, Strat, etc.

Kind of.

My Epi LP is called "Goddamn, ProBuckers really do sound great - can't believe how much it sounds like a Gibson, but why oh why the crappy fret wire? Oh well", and my Gibson Flying V is called "The grenadillo looks great now that it's oiled, and the Dirty Fingers really are outstanding... So much warmth AND definition for such a high-out humbucker - awesome!".

Or Epi LP and Gibson Flying V for short.
