Lamar Fandango Posted November 21, 2017 Share Posted November 21, 2017 Hi from St Petersburg FL. The first guitar I bought for myself was a 1984 Gibson ES-347. It cost me $750 back in 1991. That was a lot of money back then, especially since I was 17 years old. It was my #1 until I got a 1990s Fender USA Jazzmaster ‘62 reissue a few years ago. By then the ES-347 had seen years of action and was in sad shape. There was a hump in the neck, the frets were toast, the electronics crackled, and the pickguard broke. Part of me was hesitant to do a refret or do major surgery (for resale value), but I also wanted to explore single coil, 7.25 radius, whammy bar guitars. I guess I also didn’t trust the local techs with the guitar. I found a great local luthier, the kind you take this kind of guitar to. I told him to do whatever he thought was best. And he brought this guitar booming back to life. Gone is the fingerboard binding, but in every other respect this guitar is better than ever.
