The Hierophant
Hi! Recently I saw an advert for a red ES 335 dot. The owner says it's from 2009 and he's had it from new, but it does not have a certificate of authenticity. The ad has since expired without selling, so I don't have the pictures to show Gibson, and thus they won't offer me any advice at all. What I'd like to know is would a 2009 335 normally have a COA? I've had one before and that came with one, but I think that one was a later model. Thanks in advance for your input, guys.
powerwagonjohn
I have a 2009 ES-345 in walnut and it has a COA. As does my 2009 L-4CES. The ES-345 was made in Memphis and the L-4 was made in Nashville. Thanks John
badbluesplayer
Remember, the COA is basically just part of the case candy. All it says is that they made a guitar. That's it. It doesn't say that the guitar in the seller's possession is authentic. It doesn't warrant the authenticity of any particular instrument. It's probably pretty easy to fake a COA. Lot's easier than faking the guitar itself. If it was me, I wouldn't care if a used Gibson has a COA. Id be more looking at the neck and the fret wear and just making sure it looked authentic. gnappi
Most of my gits bought used do not have the "case candy" I don't see the lack of it as a show stopper at all.
powerwagonjohn
I agree completely, but the COA might add to value. It's all about the guitar itself and how it fits you. Both my 2009 Gibsons are excellent players and were nearly perfect when I bought them new. I hope you like it as much as I like my ES-345.
