2002 Gibson Explorer EMG Het Set Install

Hello,

I recently purchased the EMG Het Set to replace the stock pickups in my 2002 Gibson Explorer. I've never replaced pickups before, but I decided to give it a try since they're solderless. I've installed all the hardware (pickups, pots, hub, input, battery) and wired it according to the included diagram. I must be missing something, as they're not working correctly. The volume knobs aren't turning the pickup volume down. No matter what knob you turn, the volume doesn't go all the way off. The toggle switch doesn't seem to be switching between pickups. The tone knob is working. I don't think something is grounded correctly because there is some hum when it's plugged into an amp. There is a gray metal wire coming out of the neck, which I believe is a ground. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to do anything with that. I've included a picture and can provide more. If anyone could help out and tell me what I'm doing wrong, it would be greatly appreciated! I've been trying everything to get it to work and I can't seem to figure out the problem. Thank you.

Dont know enough about these to say from the pic whether all the wiring is correct, but I can say that the bare wire should go to ground. Not sure if everything else will kick in properly when the ground is completed.

Good luck

You think it should go to the ground on the hub?

I would go through your diagram again and make sure ALL connections are made as suggested. If you still have issues, perhaps you need someone experienced with wiring a guitar to inspect the issue. Guitar circuits are usually pretty simple, so the problem shouldn't be that difficult to fix with basic electronics knowledge.

I ended up taking it to a local guitar repair shop. The guy was great and the price was very reasonable. He told me I had two wires switched on the input and he soldered the toggle switch wiring into the bus. Everything is work great and the pickups sound awesome! Thanks.
