Hi all.

Okay, I have had this guitar for 10 years or so, I have never seen another one like it.

It is a EC-20 starburst, and it is different from the other ones I have I have seen on line, it has a rounded horn and it has a spruce top.

Any information you might have would be appreciated.

Nothing new here. Gibson made 246 of them in Antique Natural in 1997. They are listed on the 1997 price list as selling for $1999.00. They also made them in Cherry and Blue. They made 40 in Blue and 95 in Cherry in 1997. 1998 they made 155 in AN and they made 19 in 1999.

This is an example of the "Venetian cut-away". The other is a "Florentine Cut-Away. Gibson has made each style over the years but the EC series only used the Venetian.

Jorma played a Starburst for years. While not the easiest Gibson to find, they are not terribly rare. I run into them now and then in various finishes. I got to play an EC-20 last year at my favorite little music shop. The EC-20 though has always reminded me of the Kay K-27 cutaway from the 1960s which is actually a much harder guitar to come by.

Looks very nice with the spruce top & Venetian cutaway.

Maybe it is just my perspective but I would not call that a Venetian cutaway. A deep cutaway maybe but I have always thought of the Venetian cutaway as ending in a sharp point. That EC-20 brings to mind the cutaway on an ES-335 or something.

Venetian cutaway= rounded (like this particular starburst)

Florentine cutaway= sharp (like the CF-100, and most starbursts, I believe)

Perhaps the CF in the CF-100 stands for "cutaway Florentine".
