casino pickups

By no means am I a pickup or electronic wizard, but I think it might be because chrome, gold etc would be metal and might mess with the magnetic field of single coils causing them to buzz or make noise. The humbucker with their dual coils to cancel out hum can tolerate a metal cover, but when I think about it all single coils (ie Fender) that I can think of have plastic covers.

Just a guess.

I put Dan Armstrong pickups in my Casino. They sound great and DO have the chrome covers.

Well, there’s the Tele neck pickup.

Depending on the material, a metal cover can reduce highs. It also can function as shielding. Nickel silver seems to be the best.

I just replaced the stock pickups in my Casino with Fralins, and although the tone is much better, there is significantly more hum due to the unshielded covers. I’m looking for a solution. Our rehearsal room is in an industrial area and the inductively in our room is sky high. Single coils hum like crazy in that room.
