Gibson acoustic guitars

Can you tell me how well Gibson guitars hold their value.

I have a Doves In Flight custom and just wondering if it typically holds it's original purchase value, if it reduces or increases in value.

I'm never planning on selling it, just asking the question.

Many thanks,

Rachel

Gibsons tend hold their value,

Your best way to get an idea is log into your ebay account, look for "Sold" listings for the same guitar you have.

it's not an absolute, but it would give you at least a ball park of what people are selling them for at the time, which would directly translate to the street value of your guitar.

We can use the Kelly Blue Book too, but those values are always pretty disappointing.

The higher end, custom type ones like the DiF will fare better. But, like cars - they drop a good bit once you drive them off the lot. Standards a lot more. Not knowing what you paid (hopefully at least 10% less than Gibson's MSRP) you would have a difficult time breaking even. Now, if you kept it in 'mint' condition and put it up for sale in the right place 50 years from now - you could expect a profit. You can check in on Guitar Center's web-site under Used Acoustics to see how similar custom Gibson's do, but the DiF won't show up very often there. Best advice - play it whenever you get the chance and pass it down to a kid or grandkid that loves guitars.
