Hey people it's just a song.I couldn't care less.Don't worry about it.

Regardless of what one person thinks, I think it takes some guts to post a performance online and then post it in a forum for other musicians, particularly guitarists, to see and listen to. Thank you for sharing.

I think some people need to understand that this isn't one of those talent shows on TV to be critiqued. Helpful comments and criticism should be welcome but telling someone that their performance was "monotonous and seems to go on forever" and calling someone's guitar a pig? "As far as the guitar? It sounds just like what it is. A guitar Gibson designed to be a entry level guitar for beginners. It doesn't make any difference what kind of lipstick he puts on this pig it will be just like it was designed to be." That was rude, immature and uncalled for. I guess HogEye didn't learn the lesson of "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." To him I say, "Seriously? Who asked you?"

He is just that guy and I've only been here a month (as I have just been reminded, so I am sure my .02 cents means squat to the old timers), and it that short time it seems like some of the people in the Acoustic side of the house, tolerate it, back him up, and support him.

Does anyone have a sense of humor around here?

Yet some reason the moderator tolerates him and censors others. He must be connected to the mighty Henry J. He criticizes others and posts no performances of his own.

Apparently the moderators do. Or at least they appreciate irony.

There are many great musicians that post on this forum, and I'm sure that we have many others here that don't post their music. I for one have learned from some of these wonderful people. I enjoy listening to the music they provide, whether it be professional or not. At least they have the courage to post it and are enjoying a passion they love. If we were all pros we wouldn't be posting on here anyway, we would be traveling across the country. If you do not like what you are hearing you are welcome to criticize politely, not go bat sh*t crazy on your response to a song. There is no reason for anyone to berate the individual posting the music. On the other hand I think Hogeye and many other folks here have a vast knowledge on Gibson. I have read many post where people post a question and he and several others have the correct answers the poster was looking for. This was/is a great forum, please keep it that way!

Hi D-28. You are welcome here and your opinions are truly welcome. The reason I'm tolerated here is simple. I don't make personal attacks on other members. I never call folks names. I did find your remarks about me being a "Rick with a silent "P". Rather sophomoric. Is that the best you can do?

As to my critique? When someone posts a song here it's critiqued by everyone. If you read my post again you will find that I like almost all of FB's submissions but for some obvious reasons this one fell flat for me. He is much better than that. I really like the song he chose just not the delivery. As to the guitar? This song should be played with a rich full sounding guitar and he has one. The song is an American Classic and the guitar he chose was just wrong. The LG's do have a purpose and it isn't Country Western. Since FB is from Australia I thought maybe he didn't know this. His guitar would best be used on a scratchy old Blues tune. I get the fact that he was trying to present the song in a new style and that is just fine it just didn't work for a "Rick with a silent P" like me.

I'm sorry you don't think I'm entitled to my opinion. I don't like the idea of this forum being a performance forum but since it is and everyone seems to lavish praise on some less than stellar performances I should be entitled to post my opinion as well.

I really think that there are two sides to every issue and I cant imagine why folks would get upset at constructive criticism. How else will someone grow? If you are playing bad music and no one tells you you will continue. There are posters here that are interesting and some that are just awful. Someone needs to tell the truth.

I know that folks will agree with my position but will never post it on this forum. You are all invested in this disagreement and will never admit that constructive criticism is just the other side of the coin. The truly good thing is that FB is a big boy and will understand that my critique was meant to help him grow as an entertainer. The rest of you?

So totally sheading and demeaning the guy's performance and his entry level guitar as you called it(not all of us can have a guitar played by Dylan) is not a personal attack. OK. I guess that is how you see it. You just chalk it up to calling it critiquing. Where's your performance. Everyone keeps asking and you just keep criticizing and no song from you for us to critique.

We are all entitled to our opinions (except when we're not if you get my drift), but sometimes ya just gotta know when to keep your yap shut. It called couth.

So here is a question I will post point blank. What satisfaction did you get from "critiquing" his performance. Like a member said your here like the rest us because you ain't out on tour with some major touring act or in the studio making the next great Rock Opera.

Hate to interrupt you two here , but , hogeye , can I ask what you have against the performances posted ?

Apart from some of them being ‘awful’ .... no one wants to hear awful music , but you just seem against the idea of anyone posting a bit of music .. just wondering

This one's easy. This isn't the performance board. The performance board is here: http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/forum/152-the-performance-hall/ or here for acoustic performances: http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/60851-your-acoustical-performances/

But, people are going to post where there's the most traffic and visibility.

That is a good honest question. The idea for this forum was to give folks a place to get their questions about Gibson Acoustic Guitars answered. Gibson recognizes that people want to share their music with others. They have two areas specifically for that reason. If a person wants to post a performance he has two places to do it. If folks want to see performances by forum members they just go to the forum for performances. I never objected to folks posting their music on this forum until folks started posting with off brand instruments. That is a direct slap in the face to all the hard working Gibson employees that pay for the forum. It's just plain rude and insensitive. If you want to show off your Martin or some other brand fine. Just go on the other forum. This is a Gibson Acoustic forum. You would not expect to find a guy bragging about a Ford on a Chevy forum. The reason these folks post here on their off brand guitars is simple. The other forums would not tolerate it.

One guy mentioned that the reason folks post music here is that more people will see their post. ????? Why don't you ask the real question? Why don't the folks just post their music to the sites provided for them? Gibson spends a ton of money providing these sites and yet folks come here and post???

Does that give people the right to call me a coward? There is one simple person that tried to call me a P-rick. He said I was a Rick with the P silent. He doesn't even realize that a Rick with the P silent is still a Rick. I am not a Rick with a silent P I just have an opinion. So...

TO D-28 if you want to call me names please have the courage to do it out in the open. You are not clever enough to disguise your animus.

Thanks for asking.

I'm just spit balling here but he may have been the kid who got picked on in school and this is his way of showing how cool he is cause on a forum I can be a porn star with the biggest well ya know. Because there is no face to face. You can get in and get out, say whatever you want and no one can do anything to you (except boot you, or suspend you for a few days). He had to play his War Hero (Donald) Trump card and it seems like he shows up once a day, mocks and degrades peoples performances and goes away. I've heard he is knowledgeable on Gibson acoustics. OK, great. I love learning so lay some knowledge on us and not your "critiques" as you call it. Like I've said and I will say it again. MR. WAR HERO HOGEYE where is your pro level performance for us to "critique". Everyone starts somewhere. Remember when all you knew was a chord or 2 and then you built on it and put parts together and then you learned and learned and then it was a whole song.

Guys let's please move on. This internet stuff... It's just not worth it.

I like posting music here, but it really isn't worth all the bad will. Id rather post elsewhere and keep the friends here. I felt differently at one point in time, but again it's not worth it.

Hogeye, I'd shake your hand, and Lars's hand, and Anne's hand, and Grunt's hand, and so on. Murph - you get a hug. Or maybe a man hug. Or a sideways glance and nod. I always appreciate your posting humor to relax the board. Wise man.

Why don’t I get a hug ?!!

You tart

Fair enough hogeye .

I’m still gonna post the odd song tough 😉

But I’ll do it on a gibson.

Fair enough. I and all the good Gibson employees thank you as well.

People are too wound up these days.

I heard somewhere about a famous ( black ) comedian who won't do Colleges anymore, because the young people took offense at his humor. Stuff that used to be simply in jest and witty, is now all politically incorrect. Arlo used f a g g e t in Alice's Restaurant and IT WAS FUNNY. Now he would be blackballed for life.

I've been on this Forum for almost 10 years. I was on the one previous to this actually. I play almost exclusively Gibson instruments including a 1933 Gibson mandolin. I'll post an original song on a Gibson guitar any damned place I want to. I even stick them in the Lounge once in a while.

I was gigging in the mid 70's. I did it for a living in parts of the 80's and 90's and 2000's all over the Country, much of that as a hired gun. My YouTube and Soundcloud channels are all original, and have a combined nearly 30,000 views without a cat. I have a cd on iTunes/Google Play that's 20 years old and still selling, and I still perform a little if I want to. I have never told another musician on this Board they suck. Ever. Because they don't.

Green Day sucks. Rap sucks. Hip Hop sucks.

Disco sucks.

Have a pleasant day.
