bota
I would like to know the year of manufacture of a Gibson S-1, serial # 963091 (made in USA).
ksdaddy
That serial number range is around 1970 to 1972 according to a trusted source. Problem is, I don't think the S-1 came out until around 1975. Are you sure it's an S-1? Post some pics if you can.

ksdaddy
Strange. It just doesn't align. It's possible they used up a range of numbers that hadn't been used before. I know there has been a great deal of confusion about some number ranges in the 60s. If you ever decide to open it up, look for a number on the controls beginning with 137 or 304. The two digits after that will give you the year of those components and may help you date it.
