AlanD
Folks, I have a virtually pristine Epiphone “Joe Pass” Emperor (II?)I Signature, and would be very grateful for any help over the date of manufacture. I believe that it was originally from Poland, but I have owned it since 2005. The serial number on the rear of the peghead is S9320451, which is only seven digits, so the usual identification code doesn’t apply properly – and is not recognised by a search. Assuming that MM is a single digit (M) instead of 20, this would give me: Samick, 1993, February, No. 0451. I have recently contacted Gibson Customer Service Europe, who asked for photographs and were very helpful. However, because there was no label anywhere in the interior, their conclusion was the same as mine, and they replied as follows:- “From the serial number configuration, it seems the guitar was made in Korea in 1993 (February), 451th unit. Unfortunately, we don’t have available guitar labels for this guitar model.” The important phrase here is “it seems”, and I would dearly like something more definite – if possible. I have attached photos, which I hope will help, showing the location of the triple-position toggle switch and the Epsilon logo – also the front and rear of the peghead. The “Joe Pass” signature on the pickguard has been partly worn away over the years, but I have read that this feature was not added until 1995 – and that every model had its own production run - so I’m confused! After an accident with my right hand, I am very reluctantly forced to think about selling this lovely guitar, because my playing days are now over – so I need to verify the production date. Also, I have no idea of the sale value! Can anyone help, please?[/font]
Cougar
....Samick, 1993.... Man, that is one sweet old Joe Pass! I'd say it's out of Samick for sure, and most likely from 1993. You can get a brand new Joe Pass Emperor for $900+. Ebay sold listings show used ones in excellent condition going for around $500. Good luck!
