ggyoda
Hello all I am new in the forum. First of all, sorry for my English, I am French. I just bought a second hand guitar from a private person close to my home. According to the description it is a Les Paul Slash serial SL074. I have doubt on it being counterfeit but I took the risk because the price is not too high and I have the address of the guy. If I am not lucky, I will call to get a refund. Worst case, I have to go to the police. My doubts come mainly from the color; tobacco. But they may be other things as I am not an expert. Thanks in advance for your help. Regards Gérald
pippy
Bonjour et bienvenue, Gérald! Yes; it's a fake. 100% certain. Far FAR too many things 'wrong' with it for it to be a Gibson. Glad you can get your money back, though, and better luck in the future! Pip.
Big Bill
It's almost as if it wasn't intended to look like a real Gibson. I'm sorry Gerald that you got a fake Les Paul, I'm glad you're able to get back with the seller. Good luck.

ggyoda
Hi all Thanks for your clarifications. It is now clear it is a counterfeit as I feared :( I will now contact the seller for refund. Funny thing, I would be ready to keep it with partial refund. Thanks again

LWAG
I didn't see many if any American guitars in Amsterdam, and that's a big city in the NL. I've not yet been to Paris, but London, has real American guitars, in fact, London has more high end American guitars than Portland, OR (an American city). I'm sure if you came to London, you could find a real Gibson no problem. The only high end Gibsons I was able to find for sale in Oregon when I looked was brand new from the factory from a Guitar Center (London has a much better choice for used/old new stock/vintage high end Gibsons than Portland OR 'because Portland or Eugene didn't actually have any)! You could find used standards, but no one had any used Gibson Custom Shop or Gibson VOS, not like in London where we're spoilt for choice and are swimming in them. The irony was finding nice American guitars in London with ease but struggling when looking in America. The wake up call was not seeing any American guitars in Amsterdam, and this thread reminds me of only seeing them in London, maybe people in other European countries might not know a fake Gibson when they see one)? Ways to spot a fake is if something doesn't look right, including the price. (so based on the price you said you paid, that's an indication it's not real, little lone the photographic evidence that shows to me it's clearly a fake). I guess you could find a real Gibson on the internet, and London's not a million miles away - can take a train from Paris to here. This one's £2, 495.00 https://notomguitars.com/collections/guitars/products/1998-gibson-les-paul-custom-shop-catalina This one's £995.00 https://notomguitars.com/collections/guitars/products/2000-gibson-smartwood-les-paul http://www.macaris.co.uk/guitars/electric-guitars/gibson-electrics
LWAG
I only recommend you buy one in London because the price's are the same no matter where you find them and London seems to have the nice Gibsons. Places I've been to in Amsterdam and places I've researched in Oregon and Wisconsin and seen in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, taught me the nice guitars I like and can afford (not brand new) are in London. You can shop online too from where ever, but London has nice Gibsons.

LWAG
My picks if I could afford one right now from France: https://reverb.com/item/11496870-gibson-les-paul-custom-1979-wine-red https://reverb.com/item/11891379-gibson-les-paul-slash-2018-ltd-anaconda-burst (If this is the one I think it is, that came out brand new for £4, 000.00 this year or late last year). https://reverb.com/item/12266509-gibson-les-paul-slash-signature-piezo-2012-dark-burst a Slash signature model that's a good find/buy. ggyoda
Hi Sorry for not updating earlier. So the guy is buying time but I also made a mistake with significant impact here. In the middle of his add, there was a word implying it was a copy. Nevertheless, as I said earlier, I am thinking about keeping the guitar until I have enough money to buy a real gibson (not a slash obviously). Maybe, I could just upgrade it and get something acceptable. Regards and thanks for all the advices
american cheez
i bet i'm the worst guy on this whole board when it comes to spotting a fake. everyone here is probably better at it than i am. but i knew right away
LP Trad Pro II
I did not know you were allowed to drink at 10 years old in China, but it looks like a drunk 10 year old put those tuners on.
