Gibson Es LP custom neck twist

Shrug, I don’t know what to do with this guitar. A guitar tech said I have a slight neck twist, but he can level out the frets to make it play better. I have my appointment with him at the end of the month.

I also have the guitar listed for sale on reverb, but I dunno. I can’t honestly charge a high price because it’s not a perfect guitar. If I sell the guitar then I probably won’t be able to buy it again.

What would you guys do? Keep the guitar or sell it off?

Tough situation. You don't mention when you got it or if it is new or used? If you just bought it then return it to the seller and get a replacement.

Leveling the frets on a twisted neck is treating the symptom and not the disease. Yes it will play better (and tune/intonate better), but that neck will always be twisted and the guitar will never be "correct". Luthier's can do almost anything but I'm not sure a twisted neck can be straightened out?

If it tunes and plays OK I would keep it and play it. But if it's a constant battle to tune and play then I would just sell it.

Yeah, I asked in another forum and people there said something similar to your advise. A lot of the folks on there said a real twisted neck is rare. I posted pics on the other forum and a lot of people said it’s probably not a twisted neck.

I bought the guitar new old stock from Sam Ash in Florida, and I had it shipped to Arizona. I got it for $1850. I would suspect Sam Ash sold me a lemon, but I saw other places unloading their Gibson Es Les Pauls for low prices.

I’m going to get a third opinion on the guitar with another tech. I put new 10-46 nyxl strings on it and did a top wrap. It plays really well now, but it has a little choking. It plays so well now I took off my Reverb listing.

Don't spend any money! Stop! Don't let some Luthier void your Lifetime Warranty!!!

If you bought it new it comes with a Lifetime Warranty from Gibson. Contact them & arrange to send it to them for Warranty repair or replacement.

I've had to that in the past & they either repaired the Guitar or replaced it with a new one.

Great point Lars! I reread the OPs second post, and yes, since this is a NOS purchase from a legitimate dealer, you should have a valid warranty in effect.

Absolutely, you should pursue this with Gibson. Quite often, they will do a replacement of equal value re the model in question. I have done this on one occasion. You typically need to go through a regional authorized repairperson first, who will then contact Gibson to consult re next steps. Mine was sent back to Nashville to be assessed, where they then said it was not repairable and offered a replacement of my choosing (from current production).

Ooo! Thanks for the tip! I hadn't even filled out the warranty card because it only came with the hardcover certificate of authenticity, but I just filled it out online. I bought the guitar way back in winter of 2017.

Shrug, I added on Schaller locking straps. [blink]

Doesn't matter when you bought it. You'll need to get a copy of the Receipt from your Retailer if you don't have it. They should have a Copy since it's a fairly recent Purchase.

Put the Originals back on for the sake of Warranty Repair or Replacement.

I have called Gibson direct on 4-5 different Guitars over the years including 2 recently. I send them directly to Gibson. I don't want anybody else touching them. That's what I tell them. It's the best Guitar money can buy & I want only the best working on my Guitars. I tell them that too.. Also, that I'm a Professional Musician & they are my Tools...

They have done excellent work for me on all my Guitars with Warranty issues. My Limited Edition Reissue 50th Anniv. 1961 Epiphone Casino with Tremotone had to be replaced. But, it may be the best Guitar in my entire Collection of Gibsons, Gretsch, Fender & Rickenbackers....

Just want to give an update. I took my guitar to Atomic Guitar Works in Arizona, and they said my guitar did not have a neck twist. He told me if he was buying this guitar it would be totally fine. The only thing he suggested I do is a fret level. I'll go back and get the work done later because the guitar plays fine for my needs.

The guy also said if it did have a twisted neck then Gibson would have to find me a replacement since the guitar is still under warranty.

Thank you guys for the input and advice. I'm relieved this guitar doesn't have any serious issues.
